On the above date and time, I, Officer McBride, responded to 10614 Abercorn St in reference to a civil dispute involving the return of property.
Upon arrival, I was flagged down by a male located in room #[REDACTED], later identified as Mr. [VICTIM #1]. Mr. [VICTIM #1] advised that two females who reside at the hotel had been involved in a physical altercation. He stated he observed the two females fighting in the bushes. Mr. [VICTIM #1] reported that after the altercation, he returned to his room, and one of the females knocked on his door, dropped off some of her personal belongings, and asked him to hold the items for her. He stated the female then left the hotel on foot.
Mr. [VICTIM #1] further advised that the other female, later identified as Andrea Roberson, came to his room shortly afterwards, banging on the door and demanding the property. Mr. [VICTIM #1] stated he informed Ms. Roberson that he would not release the property until the other female returned to retrieve it herself. Mr. [VICTIM #1] advised that Ms. Roberson became upset and contacted law enforcement.
While speaking with Mr. [VICTIM #1], Ms. Roberson approached and began verbally arguing with Mr. [VICTIM #1] regarding the property. During the argument, Ms. Roberson spat on Mr. [VICTIM #1]. To prevent further escalation, I intervened and placed Ms. Roberson in handcuffs. Ms. Roberson was placed in the rear of my vehicle.
Ms. Roberson later requested to make a phone call to contact her grandmother regarding the retrieval of her belongings. Officer Brenner allowed Ms. Roberson to make the phone call. Officer Brenner requested that I roll down the rear window of my patrol vehicle, which I did.
At that time, Ms. Roberson slipped one hand out of her handcuffs, reached toward the external door handle, and opened the patrol vehicle door, exiting the vehicle without authorization. I immediately exited my vehicle and moved to the opposite side, where Officer Brenner was attempting to regain control of Ms. Roberson. Ms. Roberson actively resisted officers’ efforts to place her back into the vehicle.
I attempted to secure Ms. Roberson’s arm hat was still handcuffed in order to reapply the restraints. Ms. Roberson continued to resist by twisting her body and kicking, striking me twice. Due to her continued resistance, Officer Brenner and I attempted to place Ms. Roberson to the ground to gain control and safely secure her. Ms. roberson continued resisting by tucking her arms underneath her body.
Officer Brenner, Officer Sandy and I continued to struggle to secure the handcuffs. I obtained Officer Sandy’s handcuffs and connected them to the handcuffs already on Ms. Roberson, creating a double-cuff restraint. Officers were eventually able to secure Ms. Roberson’s free arm, and the handcuffs were double locked. Ms. Roberson was placed back in the rear of my patrol vehicle.
Due to the use of force, EMS and a Supervisor (Sergeant Harrell) responded to the scene.
A CRN was provided to Mr. [VICTIM #1].
Ms. Roberson was transported to Memorial Medical Center to be evaluated , then to CCDC where she was booked without incident.
