On Friday, October 24, 2025, I responded to the report of shoplifting in progress at the TIME SAVER gas station.
Upon arrival, I met with the complainant, who was identified as [WITNESS #1]. The suspect, who was later identified as ANTUAN HAYWARD, was no longer at this location.
[WITNESS #1] stated that Hayward attempted to steal a six-pack of beer. Once caught, he attempted to purchase the items; however, his financial card was declined, and he became irate. While becoming verbally aggressive, he knocked over the cans of beer, denting them. Unpaid, Hayward took one of the cans of beer, opened it, and went to the back corner of the store, where the gambling machines are.
During the confrontation with [WITNESS #1], Hayward spilled the beer on the floor, then hit one of the gambling machines, separating the front panel. At this time, the piece was reattached, and it is unknown if there is further damage.
After the incident, Hayward left with the can of beer, a black and mild cigar, and candy bars.
A photo of Hayward was provided by [WITNESS #1]. I sent it to other officers working in the area, and Hayward was found near East River Street and East Broad Street. Other officers detained him and placed him in a patrol vehicle.
Hayward denied any wrongdoing and was placed under arrest.
When Hayward was searched incident to arrest, five Payday candy bars and a driver’s license belonging to [REDACTED] were found on his person.
The candy bars were returned to the store.
During my encounter with Hayward, there was an evident odor of alcoholic beverages coming from his person. He had droopy, watery eyes and had difficulty comprehending what was being told to him. In addition, he was falling asleep in my patrol vehicle.
Hayward was transported and booked into the Chatham County Detention Center.
Officer Solorzano submitted Hayward’s property and the driver’s license to the Savannah PD Property Room for safekeeping and evidence.
[WITNESS #1] was sent a link to upload videos/pictures to Evidence.com.
