On 06/28/2026, around 2116 hours, I responded to [REDACTED] regarding a domestic disturbance.
Upon arrival, Officer Graham and I could hear a female, identified as Asia Watkins, yelling from the third floor.
Upon making contact with Ms. Watkins, she was sitting in the apartment doorway with her two daughters, identified as [JUVENILE #1] and [JUVENILE #2], while the male party, identified as [VICTIM #1], was standing inside. Ms. Watkins stated that she and her daughters were sitting there because Mr. [VICTIM #1] tried to kick them out. At this time, I attempted to get Ms. Watkins to walk downstairs with me so she could tell me her side of the story without Mr. [VICTIM #1] standing nearby. She refused to go downstairs and speak with me; she simply moved out of the doorway. As I was speaking with Ms. Watkins, Officer Graham spoke with Mr. [VICTIM #1].
Ms. Watkins advised me that they had just come from the pool. Upon trying to get more information from Ms. Watkins, her daughter [JUVENILE #1] stated, “he threw me on the ground and choked mommy.” I attempted to get details from Ms. Watkins, not just from [JUVENILE #1], but when I asked Ms. Watkins for more details, she stated, “Just talk to her (referring to [JUVENILE #1]).” I tried explaining to Ms. Watkins that the details of what happened needed to come from her. As I was saying this, [JUVENILE #1] interrupted and stated Mr. [VICTIM #1] told her that she and her sister were “gonna go to jail.” I told Ms. Watkins that I needed her to explain what happened to me. As I was saying this, Ms. Watkins interrupted me and began speaking to [JUVENILE #1], stating, “And he did what to mommy?” Once again, [JUVENILE #1] replied with “he choked mommy and threw me on the ground.” Based on the call notes provided to us, it stated that Ms. Watkins was telling a child what to tell police. Due to this, I especially wanted the information to come from Ms. Watkins because I was weary that Ms. Watkins was coaching or coercing her daughters about what to say.
I tried explaining to Ms. Watkins once again that I needed to hear this information from her. I also informed her once again that we could walk downstairs so she could speak to me without us being so close to Mr. [VICTIM #1]. Ms. Watkins replied, stating, “I don’t want to” and that she was “hurting.” I provided Ms. Watkins the option to speak with me downstairs; however, she explained that she wanted to stay upstairs. Ms. Watkins went on again, stating that they came upstairs from the pool, which was evident because everyone was still wearing their bathing suits. Ms Watkins then said that she did not understand why she had to explain to me what happened if [JUVENILE #1] already told me. Ms. Watkins asked [JUVENILE #1] once again, “What happened to mommy?” [JUVENILE #1] replied, “He choked mommy.” After telling Ms. Watkins again that I needed her to speak with me, she replied, stating, “I don’t want him to go.”
Ms. Watkins then turned to Mr. [VICTIM #1], asking, “Are we doing it or what?” Mr. [VICTIM #1] replied, stating that they were “going to have a good night tonight.” Ms. Watkins went on, stating, “My kids could say what you just did to mommy.” She also stated, “Are we going in the house and chilling, because I really don’t want no s**t? Because next time I have to call them, it’s going to be your a**.” She then said, “Are you willing to go in the house and chill the f**k out?” During her conversation with Mr. [VICTIM #1], she kept repeating that he was the aggressor.
Ms. Watkins continued speaking to Mr. [VICTIM #1], stating, “I don’t want no case, but I wanna box your a** in your f***ing face right now.” During this time, Officer Graham had repeatedly told Ms. Watkins to step away from Mr. [VICTIM #1]. She then stated that he did not keep her or her children safe. As she was saying this to Mr. [VICTIM #1], she moved in closer to him and slapped him on the left side of his face. Immediately upon Ms. Watkins hitting Mr. [VICTIM #1], I grabbed her left arm and moved her away from him. Officer Graham and I then attempted to place her hands behind her back. Shortly after this, she was placed in handcuffs and placed into the back of my patrol vehicle. Once Ms. Watkins was in my car, she stated that she was “not aggressive.” She also stated that she “wasn’t hitting him aggressively or actually hitting him.” Her justification was that she “just wanted him to shut his mouth.” She then proceeded to say that they’re “not fighting.”
After this, I returned to the apartment to speak with Mr. [VICTIM #1]. I asked Mr. [VICTIM #1] to tell me what happened. Mr. [VICTIM #1] stated that they “came from the pool and then she called us, that nothing really happened.” While speaking with Mr. [VICTIM #1], I requested some pants from Ms. Watkins as she was only wearing a one-piece bathing suit.
After this, I returned to Ms. Watkins. I placed the pants on Ms. Watkins to provide her a sense of privacy. I then had Ms. Watkins sit back into my car, and I placed the seatbelt over her. After I closed the door, Officer Graham explained to me that both parties had been consuming alcohol, and both parties admitted to drinking. This was especially evident for Ms. Watkins due to her slurring her words and the strong odor of alcohol coming from her person. Officer Graham also informed me that he read Ms. Watkins her Miranda Rights. Refer to his supplemental for further information. Officer Graham briefly explained to me that Ms. Watkins denied anything occurring between the two. Officer Graham had also asked about a firearm, due to the call notes we were provided, to which Ms. Watkins explained that there was one in the home.
After this, I placed my BWC in my car to record Ms. Watkins while she was in the back. I then contacted my supervisor to make him aware of the situation. My supervisor advised that the information should be passed on to our family violence detectives. I spoke with both my supervisor and Detective Hogan regarding the sequence of events. After this, the decision was made to place Ms. Watkins under arrest.
After speaking with my supervisor and Detective Hogan, I informed Officer Graham to take pictures of Mr. [VICTIM #1] in case he sustained any injuries. After this, I went back to speak with Ms. Watkins. Upon opening my door, I discovered that Ms. Watkins had taken the handcuffs off and had unbuckled the seatbelt. I requested that Ms. Watkins step out of the vehicle so I could properly place her back in handcuffs that were checked for fit. At this time, I took pictures of Ms. Watkins. She was then placed back into my vehicle, with the seatbelt properly restrained.
At this time, I completed the arrest and booking form for Ms. Watkins. She was then transported to Chatham County Detention Center (CCDC). Ms. Watkins was booked into CCDC without further incident.
Mr. [VICTIM #1] did not appear to have received any injuries. Upon observing Ms. Watkins, I observed bruising to the left side of her neck. I was unable to get an idea of how recent the injury to her neck occurred due to her unwillingness to tell me the details of what took place between her and Mr. [VICTIM #1].
Detective Hogan requested to receive a copy of the original 911 call. A supplemental report documenting the call notes we received prior to making contact with both parties has been completed for further information.
The photographs of Ms. Watkins and Mr. [VICTIM #1] were uploaded to Axon. A copy of the 911 audio was also uploaded to Axon.
Ms. Watkins was charged with one count of battery DVA, as she made physical contact with him when she slapped him. She was also charged with cruelty to children in the 3rd degree, as her two daughters under the age of 18 were present during the commission of battery DVA. Lastly, she was charged with one count of terroristic threats as she threatened to commit an act of violence against Mr. [VICTIM #1] while on the phone with 911 (threatening to shoot him).
