On 03/13/2026, around 0020 hours, I responded to 503 Morgan Lakes Industrial Blvd regarding a physical altercation. Upon initial arrival, we could not locate either party involved. Shortly after this, Cpl. Nevin was flagged down by the security guard, and she informed us that the victim was behind the gate, sitting in a white semi truck.
Shortly after this, we spoke with [VICTIM #1]. Ms. [VICTIM #1] explained to me that she was driving to the above stated address to drop off a load that she was carrying. While on the way to the address, her son, Chataveous Fryer, got mad at her and told her to take him to the store. Ms. [VICTIM #1] said she would not take him to the store because he does not have any money to purchase anything.
Mr. Fryer then stated that he was just going to steal something from the store. This led to Ms. [VICTIM #1] telling Mr. Fryer that she wanted nothing to do with his stealing and that he was an adult and needed to get a job. The argument continued between the two before Ms. [VICTIM #1] parked and told Mr. Fryer that he needed to get out of her truck. After she parked, she stated that she walked from he driver’s seat to the sleeper section of the cab.
After both parties moved to the sleeper section, Mr. Fryer placed both hands around her neck and began applying pressure to the point where she felt she could not breathe; however, she did not lose consciousness. At this time, Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that she struck Mr. Fryer in the face with a hanger in self-defense, and told him that he needed to get out of her truck. At this time, she stated that he exited the truck and walked towards the gate entrance before she lost sight of him.
At this time, Ms. [VICTIM #1] provided me with the description of a black male, wearing all grey with a black bookbag. She also stated that he had a tattoo near his right eyebrow and another on his left cheek. She also provided me with a picture of Mr. Fryer.
After speaking with Ms. [VICTIM #1], I drove to make contact with the security guard who spoke with Cpl. Nevin. As I was driving through the parking lot, a male matching the description of Ms. [VICTIM #1] walked up to my vehicle. Upon asking him what happened, he stated “I choked that b**ch.”
At this time, I asked Mr. Fryer to remove his backpack, and he was placed in double-lock handcuffs that were checked for fit. He was also searched incident to arrest and placed into the back of my patrol vehicle.
After this, I spoke with the security guard, later identified as [WITNESS #1], and she informed me that Mr. Fryer walked up to her and asked to use the phone. Ms. [WITNESS #1] allowed him to call from the work phone; however, the phone call did not go through. She then provided Mr. Fryer with her phone. At this time, she overheard Mr. Fryer say something about a physical altercation. Ms. [WITNESS #1] knew nothing further regarding the altercation.
After speaking with all parties, I transported Mr. Fryer to Chatham County Detention Center (CCDC). He was booked into CCDC without further incident. After this, I logged his backpack into the property room as safekeeping as it only contained clothing.
I observed a small laceration to the right side of Ms. [VICTIM #1]’s neck; however, she did not wish to be seen by EMS. I did not observe any injuries to Mr. Fryer. Photos of Ms. [VICTIM #1]’s injuries were uploaded to Axon.
A CRN was issued, and I explained to Ms. [VICTIM #1] how to get a copy of the report.
