On December 26, 2025, I was dispatched to [100 BLOCK] Buttermere Way in reference to a domestic disturbance.
Upon arrival, I was waved down by the complainant, [VICTIM #1], who was yelling for assistance and stated that his infant child was not breathing. I immediately entered the residence and observed a six-month-old infant lying unconscious on the couch. I began CPR and was able to obtain a pulse. I remained with the infant until EMS arrived on scene and took over medical care.
After EMS arrived, I spoke with Mr. [VICTIM #1]. He stated that he was in bed when he received a call from the child’s mother, Damia Bryant, who was outside his residence. Mr. [VICTIM #1] stated that Ms. Bryant had left a Christmas gathering intoxicated and drove to his residence with their children, male (6 years old), female (2 years old), and male (6 months old), all inside the vehicle.
Mr. [VICTIM #1] stated that he allowed Ms. Bryant inside the residence so she could drop off the children. Once inside, Ms. Bryant laid down in his bed, and he instructed her to leave. Mr. [VICTIM #1] stated that Ms. Bryant became aggressive, and he called his mother for assistance. While he was on the phone, Ms. Bryant struck him in the face with her fist. Mr. [VICTIM #1] stated that he was holding the six-month-old infant in his arms when Ms. Bryant first struck him. He stated that Ms. Bryant continued to attack him, causing the infant to fall from his arms. Mr. [VICTIM #1] did state during the altercation he injured his left shoulder, thinking he dislocating it.
Mr. [VICTIM #1] stated that he then called his roommate, [VICTIM #2], to assist him because Ms. Bryant continued attempting to fight him while he was holding the child. [VICTIM #2] entered the room and took possession of the infant. Mr. [VICTIM #1] stated that Ms. Bryant then began striking [VICTIM #2], causing the infant to fall from [VICTIM #2]’s arms and lose consciousness. Mr. [VICTIM #1] stated that Ms. Bryant continued to fight, at which point [VICTIM #2] began defending himself to stop the assault.
Mr. [VICTIM #1] stated that he retrieved the infant and attempted to perform CPR, but was unable to locate a pulse prior to law enforcement’s arrival.
I then spoke with [VICTIM #2], who stated that he was asleep when he was awakened by Mr. [VICTIM #1] yelling for help and stating that Ms. Bryant was assaulting him. [VICTIM #2] stated that he entered the room and took the infant from Mr. [VICTIM #1]. He stated that Ms. Bryant then began attacking him, causing the infant to fall from his arms. He stated that Ms. Bryant continued to fight him after the infant fell, and he defended himself to stop the assault.
I then spoke with Damia Bryant, who admitted to striking [VICTIM #1] first.
Based on the statements provided, observations made, and the totality of the circumstances, Ms. Bryant was placed under arrest for the following charges:
DUI – Less Safe
Ms. Bryant admitted to driving to the residence after leaving a Christmas gathering while intoxicated. Witness statements indicate she was impaired at the time she operated a motor vehicle, making her a less safe driver.
DUI – Endangerment of a Child Under the Age of 14
Ms. Bryant drove a motor vehicle while intoxicated with three minor children in the vehicle: [JUVENILE #1] (6), [JUVENILE #2] (2), and [JUVENILE #3] (6 months), placing the children at risk of harm.
Cruelty to Children — Second Degree
Ms. Bryant continued aggressive behavior and physical assaults in the presence of minor children, including striking [VICTIM #1] and [VICTIM #2], which caused the infant to fall a second time and created a dangerous environment likely to cause emotional and physical harm.
Battery
Ms. Bryant intentionally struck [VICTIM #1] in the face with her fist, causing an offensive and provoking physical contact. Ms. Bryant admitted to striking Mr. [VICTIM #1] first.
Ms. Bryant was placed in handcuffs, which were checked for proper fit and double-locked. A search incident to arrest was conducted, and Ms. Bryant was placed in the rear of my patrol vehicle.
Ms. Bryant was transported to Memorial Hospital for medical clearance and was subsequently transported to the Chatham County Jail. She was issued a $7,000 bond. Ms. Bryant signed a First Appearance and Preliminary Hearing waiver and was provided a court date of April 9, 2026.
All injuries sustained by the infant were documented and reported to Criminal Investigations Division detectives and the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) for further investigation.
