On 10/04/2025, I, Ofc. M. Johnston had responded to a Hit and Run report for Dennis Corbitt. After issuing Mr. Corbitt a CRN card, I began a more in-depth investigation. According to Mr. Corbitt’s statement, the Hit and Run occurred at the intersection of Pooler Parkway and the road where the Public Storage was located. He was unable to give the name of the street, which is Pipemaker Circle. He was also unable to advise on the make and model of the car that had hit his vehicle. The only indication he offered was that it was orange, like the paint transfer on his White 2014 Ford Escape [REDACTED]. He did state he believed the other vehicle was an SUV.

Prior to the initial call at 0900, I was passing the Pooler Parkway and Pipemaker Circle intersection going southbound on Pooler Parkway. I did not see any orange vehicle, nor did I hear any kind of impact. I canvassed the northbound side of the intersection. There did not appear to be any debris of an collision in the roadway or on the side of the road. I then canvassed Canal Street as there are orange above ground pipes, poles, and Dunkin Donuts signs. I did not observe any damage along Canal St.

At 0934 hours I canvassed the Public Storage at 152 Pipemaker Circle. There, I observed the orange call box for the property gate had been knocked over and appeared to have been smashed. On the ground around the call box was what appeared to be a broken headlight and broken pieces of a white vehicle. An employee had just arrived on scene and was able to advise that the damage to the call box was not there the day before. The employee advised that the property had cameras. The employee and I looked at the cameras facing the call box.

At approximately 0840 hours, a white Ford Escape (GA Tag: [REDACTED]) pulled up to the property gate. The vehicle was inside the gate and was waiting for the gate to open. Once the gate was open, the vehicle began to make a right turn into the parking lot. The vehicle sped up and went over the right hand curb.
It then drove through the grass and struck the call box somewhere on the front ride side of the vehicle. The vehicle then reversed and backed over the curb onto the parking lot black top. A black male then left the vehicle from the front driver’s door. He was wearing an orange shirt and blue jeans which appeared to be the same clothing Mr. Corbitt was wearing during the initial report. The male appeared to be similar to Mr. Corbitt’s build.

I gave the employees a CRN Card and advised them to email me a copy of the video.

When I had originally spoke to Mr. Corbitt at the Publix Parking Lot, he was wearing an orange shirt and blue jeans. I had obtained Mr. Corbitt’s Driver’s License and his phone number. His address was listed at [400 BLOCK] Copper Creek Circle.

At 1030 hours I went to [400 BLOCK] Copper Creek Circle with other officers. Upon my arrival, I observed there was no vehicle parked in the driveway. I attempted to make contact at the front door with negative results.

At 1038 hours, I called the number Mr. Corbitt provided me. He answered. I asked if he could meet me at 100 SW US Highway 80 (Pooler City Hall) as I needed more information in reference to his report. He advised that he was not able to meet me at that time but would meet me there around 1200 hours. I agreed to this and continued on my patrol until then.

At 1152 hours, I came to Pooler City Hall and waited for Mr. Corbitt. At 1212 hours, I called Mr. Corbitt, but it went to voicemail. I tried once more and it went to voicemail again. I left him a voicemail advising I was aware he had lied to me. I had a video of him striking the call box at the Public Storage. He could come meet me at Pooler City Hall to be arrested or else I would swear out warrants for his arrest.

At 1218 hours I received a call from Mr. Corbitt. He advised me that he was on his way to turn himself in.

At 1232 hours, I was waiting at Pooler City Hall when Mr. Corbitt arrived driving the Ford Escape. At that point, I took him into custody placing him in handcuffs. I double locked the handcuffs. I searched Mr. Corbitt’s pockets. He had a cellphone, several dollar bills and coins, a lighter, a vape, and a wallet. Inside the wallet were various cards and his Driver’s License. Mr. Corbitt was advised that the lighter and vape could not go with him to CCDC. The coins were placed back into the Ford Escape with Mr. Corbitt’s consent.

I asked Mr. Corbitt if there was someone who could come pick up the vehicle. He advised his son, [REDACTED]. I assisted Mr. Corbitt in calling [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] agreed to come take possession of the vehicle. When [REDACTED] arrived, Mr. Corbitt advised that I could transfer the dollar bills and his wallet to [REDACTED]. I did so, but advised Mr. Corbitt that his Driver’s License would still need to go with him to CCDC. Mr. Corbitt consented. I ran [REDACTED] Corbitt’s driver’s license through NCIC/GCIC. He had not have any warrants and had a valid license.

At 1316 hours, I began to transport Mr. Corbitt to CCDC. While transporting Mr. Corbitt to CCDC he stated he wish he hadn’t lied. When I advised him he had a court date of 10/40/2025 at 1000 hours, he stated he would just pay the citations. At 1331 hours, I arrived at CCDC where Mr. Corbitt was transferred without any incident. He was issued his Citations and Arrest Paperwork.

Dennis Corbitt was charged with Striking a Fixed Object (OCGA 40-6-272), Leaving the Scene of an Accident (OCGA 40-6-270, and False Report of a Crime (OCGA 16-10-26).
