On 01/21/2026 at approximately 0226hrs I responded to 4700 Waters Ave (Memorial Hospital) regarding an individual trespassing. I responded in full police uniform and in a marked patrol vehicle.
Once on scene, I was informed by an SPD officer who was already on scene that the suspect, Eressea Deane, was instructed to leave the property in which she would not. I observed Ms. Deane sitting on the floor of the Ambulance Bay in which I retrieved her her information through medical staff. I then entered Ms. Deane’s information through GCIC/NCIC where I observed and confirmed through records, that Ms. Deane had an active warrant for failure to appear out of Chatham County Sheriff’s Office.
As I approached Ms. Deane alongside my Cpl, she kept stating she couldn’t walk. As she was sitting, she was informed she was under arrest as we then attempted to place her hands behind her back when she then stood up while tensing to prevent us from handcuffing her. After she was cuffed, she was placed in the backseat of my patrol vehicle (she had walked perfectly to the car).
I was then informed by [WITNESS #1] (Medical Staff), that Ms. Deane was brought to Memorial earlier in the day by officers who had gotten into a fight with her. He also stated that Ms. Deane had pulled her pants down and peed in the hallway of the hospital. I then was able to view camera footage of Ms. Deane getting up from a bed, walk over to the counter, grab a short bucket, walk back to the bed, bend over, squat, then pee. I also observed in the hallway pee in the bucket and on the floor.
Ms. Deane made numerous statements that she couldn’t walk to the bathroom which is why she did that. I observed in the video that she was only a few steps away from 2 restrooms. Mr. [WITNESS #1] had also informed me she tried to kick him but he did not wish to press charges. In the video you can also see multiple patients as well as staff were present when Ms. Deane peed.
I sent a community request to the Security supervisor for the footage. Per the hospital staff’s request, Ms. Deane was banned from the property.
I then transported Ms. Deane to CCDC where she was booked. I observed that Ms. Deane had a prior report on 01/20/2026 where she made a report (260120082). In the report it stated that Ms. Deane was confirmed to have a warrant, but did not state that she was arrested for the warrant or transported to MMC or CCDC.
While I was at the jail, officers informed me that Ms. Deane was in there earlier, where Ofc. Clayton and Cpl. Abbassi had brought her in for her warrant. They stated that while they were waiting in the sallyport, Ms. Deane had laid on the ground and began slamming her head on the floor. They stated that they had to tell them to stop her as they were only just standing there.
After they said this Cpl. Abbassi placed his foot underneath her in an attempt to stop her from slamming her head. They informed me that Ms. Deane was now bleeding from her face so they instructed them to take her back to MMC for medical clearance when Cpl. Abbassi had a verbal disagreement with them regarding their request, stating it was their warrant that they brought her in for.
They stated to him it was still his arrestee in their custody and that he would have to bring her back after medically clearing her. Cpl. Abbassi stated to them that he would not be bringing her back to CCDC. The officers at the jail also informed me that the incident was reported to their supervisor.
In reference to the report I observed earlier (260120082), it is important to mention that a CRN card was found on Ms. Deane’s person that was referenced in that report. The CRN referenced and found on Ms. Deane’s person was 260120079. I attempted to locate this report but found there was none completed/written at this point in time. It seems at this point from my observations, staff statements, and officers statements.
Ms. Deane was arrested for her warrant, transported to CCDC, then transported to MMC where she was released all by Ofc Clayton/Cpl. Abbassi. None of which was documented in any report and Ms. Deane did not have a release on a subpoena form for her prior arrest.
A supervisor was notified.
