On January 21st at 11:44 hours, Officers were dispatched to Chatham City Apartments, located at [4900 BLOCK] Augusta Road, Apartment [REDACTED], in reference to shots heard in the area.

The call notes advised that a resident contacted the property manager, [WITNESS #1], stating that there were shots being heard by [REDACTED].

I attempted to contact [WITNESS #1] at her call back number but was unable to make contact.

I arrived on scene to Chatham City Apartments, [REDACTED], a female identified as [VICTIM #1], exited the residence. [VICTIM #1] stated there was not anyone else inside the residence and she was looking for her best friend, [VICTIM #2], who was also involved.

[VICTIM #1] was cooperative in assisting with immediate descriptions of the parties involved.

Other officers arrived on scene and the apartment was cleared. There were no victims of a shooting inside the residence.

[VICTIM #1] stated that her and [VICTIM #2] are friends with [REDACTED], who rents the apartment. [VICTIM #1] advised that they hangout and stay at [REDACTED]’s apartment on occasion. [VICTIM #1] advised [REDACTED]’s sister, Jada Sephens, had been at his apartment for two days. [VICTIM #1] advised that [REDACTED] was at work during the incident. [VICTIM #1] stated her and [VICTIM #2] noticed that Stephens had making “sly” comments towards them and being disrespectful, which started last night.

[VICTIM #1] advised that prior to the incident, [VICTIM #2] was sitting on the couch with a “cover” over her lower half, because she was not wearing pants, when Stephens came up to her a “ripped” the “cover” off her to do laundry. [VICTIM #1] advised her and [VICTIM #2] did not say anything to Stephens about doing that, because “we already know how we get” and [VICTIM #1] didn’t want things to escalate. [VICTIM #1] stated after Stephens’s did “whatever she was doing with the cover”, Stephens mother, Wendie Stafford, walked in.

[VICTIM #1] advised Stafford was “already looking us up and down.” [VICTIM #1] advised she said “hey how you doing?” to Stafford, out of respect because she is an “adult”. Stephens and Stafford then went outside. [VICTIM #1] advised her and [VICTIM #2] felt they were “talking sh*t” about them while outside. [VICTIM #1] stated “next thing you know the sister comes busting through the door saying ‘y’all gotta get out'”, referring to Stephens as ‘the sister”. [VICTIM #1] advised she told them, that was fine but they were going to wait inside for their ride.

[VICTIM #1] advised “the mom”, referring to Stafford, came it stating “Y’all gotta get out”.

[VICTIM #1] advised she started, “going back and fourth with the daughter” and [VICTIM #2] “started going back and fourth with the mom”. [VICTIM #1] stated her and Stephens began fighting in the living room. [VICTIM #1] advised while her and Stephens were fighting, [VICTIM #2] and Stafford began fighting. [VICTIM #1] did not advise who hit who first.

[VICTIM #1] stated the altercation started in the living and they “fought all over the house”. [VICTIM #1] stated that Stafford pepper sprayed her, while she had Stephens “on the ground” of the bedroom. [VICTIM #1] advised shortly after she saw Stafford “point it” and she heard a “big ol pop”. [VICTIM #1] advised Stafford “shot something” inside the house. [VICTIM #1] stated she heard Stafford yelling “we have to go, we have to go right now, before I end up shooting again”. [VICTIM #1] stated she ran after Stephens and Stafford but did not see where they went. [VICTIM #1] stated after she was pepper sprayed she no longer saw or heard [VICTIM #2]. [VICTIM #1] stated she ran around the apartment building looking for [VICTIM #2] but could not find her.

[VICTIM #1] advised she had [VICTIM #2] cell phone. [VICTIM #1] stated she did not know where [VICTIM #2] went and that she did not know anyone in the area who might have picked her up or let her inside their residence.

[VICTIM #1] stated she did not see a gun due impaired vision from the pepper spray. I observed redness around [VICTIM #1]’s eyes. [VICTIM #1]’s eyes her also bloodshot and watery.

During my interview with [VICTIM #1], she was unsure of Stephens and Stafford’s names and referred to them as “the sister” and “the mom”.

Officers then detained [VICTIM #1] at 12:17 hours for further questioning by Garden City CID. [VICTIM #1] was placed in hand restraints, behind her back, that were fit to size and double locked. [VICTIM #1] was then escorted and placed inside the transport compartment of my patrol vehicle, with her seatbelt fastened.

The scene was then transferred to Detective Matthews.

I transported [VICTIM #1] to the Garden City Police Department at 12:21 hours.

Once at the Garden city Police Department, [VICTIM #1] was placed inside of a waiting cell. [VICTIM #1]’s hand restraints were moved to the front of her body. [VICTIM #1] was given a drink and a snack while she was waiting to be interviewed.

While [VICTIM #1] was waiting to be interviewed, I took photos of her injuries. I observed a small red mark on her left cheek under her eye. [VICTIM #1] had blood on the nail bed of her left ring finger and pinky finger. [VICTIM #1] advised her nails came off in the fight. [VICTIM #1] advised she had pain on her left hand and elbow.

Chatham County Emergency Services arrived at the Garden City Police Department to examine and flush [VICTIM #1]s’ eyes, due to continued irritation from the pepper spray.

Custody of [VICTIM #1] was transferred to Detective Lt. Rodriguez.
