On 12/14/2025, I was dispatched to [300 BLOCK] Durham Park Way in reference to a domestic disturbance. Call notes indicated that the caller’s father was beating his mother, with a female screaming in the background.
Upon arrival, I made contact with Juvenile #1 outside the residence. While speaking with Juvenile #1, I could hear yelling and screaming coming from inside the residence. Juvenile #1 stated that his stepfather, later identified as Mr. Hendry, was intoxicated and had been physically assaulting his mother, Ms. [VICTIM #1]. Juvenile #1 further stated that he attempted to intervene to protect his mother, at which time Mr. Hendry struck him in the face, causing injury to the left side of his lip and cheek.
While I was awaiting the arrival of additional officers, Ms. [VICTIM #1] exited the residence and approached me. She stated that her husband, Mr. Hendry, was intoxicated and attempted to lie in bed with one of their children while under the influence of alcohol. Ms. [VICTIM #1] advised that she told Mr. Hendry to get out of the child’s bed, which resulted in a physical domestic dispute. During this time, OFC. Weeks arrived on scene. I asked Ms. [VICTIM #1] if Mr. Hendry had struck her, to which she replied, Yes.
I then instructed Ms. [VICTIM #1] and Juvenile #1 to wait near my patrol vehicle while additional officers arrived. OFC. Weeks and I made entry into the residence. Once inside, Mr. Hendry walked downstairs and began speaking with us. At that time, OFC. Weeks and I placed Mr. Hendry into custody. Mr. Hendry was handcuffed, double-locked, checked for proper fit, and patted down for weapons. While in custody, I read Mr. Hendry his Miranda warning. When asked if he understood his rights and was willing to answer questions, Mr. Hendry understood his rights and agreed to talk to officers.
Mr. Hendry stated that he had attended a party earlier in the day and consumed several alcoholic beverages. He advised that upon returning home, he went to bed, but Ms. [VICTIM #1] did not want him in bed due to the smell of alcohol. Mr. Hendry stated that a domestic dispute then occurred and that both he and Ms. [VICTIM #1] struck each other.
Mr. Hendry was escorted outside, searched, and placed in the rear seat of my patrol vehicle, at which time he was formally placed under arrest. While Mr. Hendry was in my patrol vehicle, OFC. Orten and OFC. Smith advised me that Mr. Hendry had intentionally broken Ms. [VICTIM #1]’s Samsung smartphone, valued at approximately $250, in an attempt to prevent her from calling 911. They also advised that Mr. Hendry had attempted to strangle Ms. [VICTIM #1] and that visible marks were observed on her collarbone and neck area.
Once Pooler Fire Department personnel arrived on scene, Mr. Hendry was evaluated and medically cleared. Mr. Hendry was then transported to Memorial Hospital in Savannah for further medical evaluation, where he was subsequently medically cleared by hospital staff.
Mr. Hendry was then transported to the Chatham County Detention Center, where he was processed. Mr. Hendry signed the Preliminary Hearing Waiver, Domestic Violence First Appearance Waiver, and First Appearance Waiver. He was issued a Pooler Municipal Court date of March 12, 2026, at 1000 hours, and assigned a $4,800 bond.
Mr. Hendry was issued five citations for the following offenses:
- Cruelty to Children, First Degree (O.C.G.A. 16-5-70(b))
- Aggravated Assault (O.C.G.A. 16-5-21)
- Criminal Trespass (O.C.G.A. 16-7-21)
- Obstructing or Hindering a Person Making an Emergency Call (O.C.G.A. 16-10-24.3)
- Simple Battery (Domestic Violence) (O.C.G.A. 16-5-23(a)(2))
[End of Narrative]
