On 10/6/25, at approximately 1657 hours, I was dispatched to [100 BLOCK] Hwy 80, Apt [REDACTED]. Bloomingdale, Ga., in reference to the complainant’s grandson threatening her with a knife.

On scene, Ofc. Marean and Sgt Anderson arrived first. They made contact with the grandson, John Paulson, who at the time was inside the residence armed with a knife. I arrived on scene shortly after and as I approached the main entry door of the residence, Sgt Anderson advised that John was still armed with a knife in his left hand. He was currently seated on a recliner located in the living room of the apartment.

After multiple times asking John to drop the knife, he finally complied. John was detained and placed in hand restraints behind his back, which were sized, fitted, and double locked. John was then escorted to Sgt Anderson’s patrol vehicle, according to Ofc. Marean, as they were escorting John to the vehicle, John began obstructing once again.

I located the complainant, [VICTIM #1], who at the time was outside with other neighbors. [VICTIM #1] explained that she and John had gotten into a verbal argument, which escalated to John shoving her, taking out a butcher knife on her, and making threats of stabbing her, along with throwing an empty fruit snack box at her face.

[VICTIM #1] stated that John has been staying with her at the residence on and off since he was released from prison back in June of 2025. She stated that the incident began with her confronting John about texting another person that he was not supposed to have contact with. According to [VICTIM #1], John got in her face and began using profanity while denying that he had messaged that person. [VICTIM #1] stated that sometime during all of this, John shoved her back and then went and grabbed a butcher knife from the kitchen.

According to [VICTIM #1], this is the 2nd incident recently with John, however, the first time was not as bad as this incident.

[VICTIM #1] stated that she had sat down on her recliner in the living room when John walked into the living room with the knife in his hand. [VICTIM #1] stated that she demanded that John leave the residence or she would call the police, and at that time, [VICTIM #1] stated that John threatened to stab her if she did. According to [VICTIM #1], John took a swing at her with the knife but missed her. [VICTIM #1] advised that she was scared during this incident. [VICTIM #1] stated that John then returned the knife to the kitchen, and she had walked out to call 911.

I then interview John regarding the incident. I read John his Miranda Rights prior to any questioning, and he stated that he understood his rights and would speak to me about the incident. John stated that he had just woken up when [VICTIM #1] began nagging him and yelling in his face. John stated that he never shoved [VICTIM #1], but he did grab the knife from the kitchen and walk into the living room with it. John stated that he wasn’t going to hurt her, nor did he feel threatened to use the knife against [VICTIM #1]. It is unclear and undetermined as to why John took the knife from the kitchen and then walked into the living room, where [VICTIM #1] was located.

John stated that he threw the empty box of the fruit snack at [VICTIM #1], but according to John, this was by accident. I asked John why he was armed with a different knife upon police arrival, and he stated that he initially wanted to harm himself. John stated that he did not want to go to the hospital at this time.

As I was speaking with John, he decided to make some terroristic threats against one of the neighbors [VICTIM #2], stating, “I’m going to see about you” and “I’ll eat your face”. [VICTIM #2], is also a witness who heard the altercation and, after speaking with John, Ofc. Marean and I interviewed [VICTIM #2]. He stated that he lives next door to John and [VICTIM #1] and heard John yelling and screaming at [VICTIM #1]. [VICTIM #2] also stated that he heard [VICTIM #1] tell John that she was going to call the cops if he didn’t put the knife down. [VICTIM #2] advsied that he does not know John at all.

I gave [VICTIM #1] a Bloomingdale victim’s pamphlet along with information on filing for a protection order and eviction notice against John. I explained that John was being transported to the Chatham County Detention Center and that they should notify her upon his release from jail. She advised that she was going to call the parole office since John is currently on parole. I provided [VICTIM #1] with a case number and information on how to obtain a copy of the police report.
