On January 2, 2026, at approximately 1105 hours, I, Officer Osses (#243), responded to the intersection of Augusta Road and Smith Avenue regarding a reported road rage incident.
Upon arrival, I made contact with the complainant, [VICTIM #1], who was operating a black Ford Expedition. [VICTIM #1] stated that while traveling northbound on Augusta Road, a black female driving a blue Ford SUV (later identified as a Ford Freestyle) pointed a firearm at him. [VICTIM #1] provided video footage of the encounter.
In the footage, I observed the blue Ford driving aggressively in front of the victim’s vehicle. The offender repeatedly merged in front of the victim and abruptly braked, forcing the victim to take evasive action to avoid a collision. At the intersection of Augusta Road and Priscilla D. Thomas Way, the offender stopped her vehicle in the middle of the roadway and exited. As she stepped out, she was observed holding a black handgun in her left hand and waving it toward the victim. The offender then re-entered her vehicle and fled the scene.
While gathering information from the victim, I observed the offender’s vehicle passing our location heading southbound on Augusta Road. Based on the video evidence, I initiated a traffic stop on Augusta Road, just north of Priscilla D. Thomas Way. Upon approaching the driver’s side, I identified the driver as the same subject from the video. The driver was ordered to exit the vehicle and was immediately detained. She was placed in handcuffs, which were checked for fit and double-locked. The subject was identified via her Georgia Identification Card as Lateka Simmons.
Due to a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle, a probable cause search was conducted. During the search, a black Taurus handgun (Serial # ABH814096) was located inside the center console.
Simmons was advised she was under arrest for the following charges:
Simple Assault
Aggressive Driving
Disorderly Conduct
Improper Stopping
No License on person.
An inventory of the vehicle was conducted; no other items of significant value were located. The vehicle was subsequently towed by Sapps Towing.
Simmons was transported to the Chatham County Detention Center, where she was issued a $2,000 bond and advised of her court date.
The firearm was logged into property as evidence.
