At approximately 19:41hrs on 25 JAN 2026, I was dispatched to [800 BLOCK] Carver St in reference to a domestic violence incident in progress. Per the 911 call notes, the female complainant was advising that her boyfriend was intoxicated, hit her, choked her/got on top of her, threw her items out of the house, and was armed with a screwdriver.
Upon arriving on scene, I made contact with the complainant, Ms. [VICTIM #1], in the driveway of the home. Ms. [VICTIM #1] directed me toward the suspect, Mr. Linwood Brown, who was still inside the home and actively throwing items out the door onto the driveway. I ordered Mr. Brown to come out to me and I detained him, securing him in handcuffs and then placing him in the rear seat of my patrol car. With Mr. Brown detained, I began my investigation into the incident.
INFORMATION OBTAINED FROM MS. [VICTIM #1]:
Ms. [VICTIM #1] prefaced our conversation by informing me that she takes Buspar and Celexa for anxiety, and that Mr. Brown knows she struggles with anxiety. Ms. [VICTIM #1] went on to say that she visited her son, who is currently incarcerated, at about 1415 hrs today before returning home just after 1700 hrs. Ms. [VICTIM #1] said Mr. Brown was angry and intoxicated at this time and told her to get out of the house. Ms. [VICTIM #1] told me she tried to ignore Mr. Brown because she knew he’d been drinking, and laid down on the bed with headphones on.
Ms. [VICTIM #1] reported that Mr. Brown then came into the room, snatched the headphones off of her, and again told her to get out of the house. Ms. [VICTIM #1] said Mr. Brown then grabbed her and told her she was going to get out today, while he directed expletives at her. Ms. [VICTIM #1] reported she then swung at Mr. Brown in self defense, and that Mr. Brown then grabbed her, pinned her to the bed, and occluded her mouth/nose with his hands.
Ms. [VICTIM #1] told me she was able to get Mr. Brown off of her, but that he then re-engaged and put both of his hands around her neck in a manner that impaired her ability to breathe and caused her to see black. Ms. [VICTIM #1] reported she told Mr. Brown that she couldnt breathe. Ms. [VICTIM #1] said one of the other people who lives at the address (she was unsure of exactly whom) then came into the room, which caused Mr. Brown to walk out.
Ms. [VICTIM #1] said Mr. Brown then came back into the room with a screwdriver, pinned her to the bed, put the screwdriver to her neck, and told her that she was going to die today. Ms. [VICTIM #1] told me someone then came to the room again, which gave her the opportunity to escape the house and call police. Ms. [VICTIM #1] told me she and Mr. Brown have been on-again/of-again boyfriend and girlfriend for about seven years, and that they’ve lived together at this address since approximately 12/14-12/15 of 2025. When asked about broken items inside the house, Ms. [VICTIM #1] said the damages occurred incidental to the struggle between Mr. Brown and her.
Ms. [VICTIM #1] complained of discomfort around her neck. I observed a superficial abrasion to the left side of the back of her neck, possibly consistent with an injury that could be inflicted by a fingernail during a strangulation incident. I also observed redness to the lower right side of Ms. [VICTIM #1]’ face, but was unable to discern if this was an injury or dried blood, and a laceration to the outside of Ms. [VICTIM #1]’ right forearm, which she said was caused by the screwdriver. Ms. [VICTIM #1] was evaluated by EMS at the scene but not transported to the hospital.
INFORMATION OBTAINED FROM MR. LINWOOD BROWN:
Prior to interviewing Mr. Brown, I informed him of his Miranda Rights. Mr. Brown told me that Ms. [VICTIM #1] came home around 1800 hrs this evening after visiting her son. Mr. Brown said Ms. [VICTIM #1] told him that she was going to go gambling, and that his upset him because they usually gamble together, and her lack of inclusion of him in her statement led him to believe she was going out to see another man.
Mr. Brown reported he then asked Ms. [VICTIM #1] to sleep in a room he referred to as their “cool-down” room (where they mutually have agreed one of them will go whenever they argue), and that Ms. [VICTIM #1] refused to and told him to go there. Mr. Brown said this led to an escalation of the altercation, and that Ms. [VICTIM #1] began breaking items inside the house, including an elephant statue and a television, and then attacked him physically. Mr. Brown said Ms. [VICTIM #1] then began throwing his items, and that he then began throwing her items in retaliation.
Mr. Brown reported he attempted to restrain Ms. [VICTIM #1] by lying his bodyweight on top of her on the bed, but denied ever putting his hands on her. Mr. Brown said while he was lying on top of Ms. [VICTIM #1], she bit his lower lip and said that she could not breathe (which he attributed to her anxiety), and that he then got off of her. When I asked Mr. Brown about the involvement of a screwdriver, he denied it entirely. However, Mr. Brown said that Ms. [VICTIM #1] was attempting to stab him with a sewing device during the altercation.
Mr. Brown said he was able to gain control over this device from her. Mr. Brown corroborated Ms. [VICTIM #1]’ description of their relationship, and confirmed they’d lived together at the address for about a month after she was released from jail. Mr. [VICTIM #1] also informed me that he is currently on probation related to an aggravated assault charge in a similar incident.
I observed a wound to the left side of Mr. Brown’s lower lip. I also observed small holes in the front of his shirt and, upon him being changed out at the jail, saw multiple superficial lacerations and abrasions to the right side of Mr. Brown’s upper back. Mr. Brown said these wounds were from Ms. [VICTIM #1]’ use of the sewing device against him. When Ms. [VICTIM #1] allowed me access to the home, I observed a broken elephant statue and broken television in the bedroom, as well as a yellow-handled sewing tool (possibly a seam ripper) on the dresser in the bedroom. I did not observe any screwdrivers inside the home.
INFORMATION OBTAINED FROM MR. [WITNESS #1]:
Mr. [WITNESS #1], a male subject who also lives at the address and informed me that he is Mr. Brown’s step-father, told me that Mr. Brown told Ms. [VICTIM #1] to leave. Mr. [WITNESS #1] said Mr. Brown and Ms. [VICTIM #1] then began grabbing each other and Ms. [VICTIM #1] threw some food.
Detectives were consulted but did not respond to the scene. SGT Hunt responded to the scene. Mr. Brown was placed under arrest for two counts of aggravated assault DVA (one count for the strangulation assault and the second for the “screwdriver” assault) and one count of battery DVA. Ms. [VICTIM #1] was provided with a case report number card, oriented to its content, and then left the scene to stay at her daughter’s house.
I transported Mr. Brown to Memorial Medical Center’s emergency department for medical clearance. Upon being discharged from the emergency department, I transported Mr. Brown to the Chatham County Detention Center and transferred custody of him without incident.
