On February 28th, 2026 at approx. 0321 I responded to 310 Main Street in reference to a suspicious person. While on scene I observed a male asleep in the driver seat of a gray vehicle while the vehicle was running.
After making contact with the complainant and securing the scene, myself, Corporal Jackson, and Officer Jeffers approached the vehicle. In plain view I observed a bag of green leafy substance in the left hand of the suspect, later identified as Marques Smoak.
I knocked on the window of the vehicle to ensure Smoak did not need medical attention. Smoak woke up and immediately tried to cover the bag in his hand.
I asked him to step out of the vehicle. Upon him exiting the vehicle Corporal Jackson removed the bag from his hand and discovered a white powdery substance. Smoak was placed in hand restraints, sized to fit, behind his back, and placed in the back seat of Officer Jeffer’s vehicle; which was inspected prior to the beginning of shift. Smoak was informed he was under arrest and was read his Miranda Rights by Corporal Jackson.
Once in the back seat of the patrol vehicle I asked Smoak for his name multiple times. He refused to identify himself. I tested the white powdery substance using a drug identifying kit where it tested positive for the presence of cocaine.
During a search of the vehicle, I found a small bag of chalk like substance. Due to my training and experience, I believed it to be MDMA/Ecstasy. I also found a cigarillo containing green leafy substance in an ashtray in the center cup holder. I tested the substance using a drug identifying kit where it tested positive for Ecstasy.
During this time Smoak became belligerent, attempted to exit the patrol vehicle, and was intentionally and unreasonably screaming loudly in a residential setting where multiple lights were off. Smoak was disrupting the peace to the point where residents were awakened and came outside. I gave Smoak multiple verbal commands to stop screaming. Corporal Jackson and myself assisted him back into the vehicle. He was charged with 3 counts of Possession of a controlled substance, Disorderly Conduct, and Obstruction.
Officer Jeffers transported Smoak to the Chatham County Detention Center, where he awaits to be arraigned.
They were each weighed, they weighed the following.
Cocaine 4.4g
Ecstasy 1.2g
Marijuana 2.3g
GBI Submittion form was completed for all the items and was submitted into locker 8.
