On 10/13/2025 at approximately 0045 hours I, Cpl. Medina, responded to [1300 BLOCK] E 38th St. regarding an armed robbery that just occurred. Upon initial canvas for the victim, [VICTIM #1], we were able to locate him at the intersection of E 37th St. and Waters Ave.

[VICTIM #1] stated that a tall black male wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, and white shoes who goes by the name of “Wood” asked him for money while walking with his female friend, [WITNESS #1], along Waters Ave. [VICTIM #1] further stated that “Wood” asked him for money in which he stated that he told him that he did not have any money.

[VICTIM #1] then stated that he turned around, and “Wood” struck him along the shoulder area with a blunt object that was like a police baton. [VICTIM #1] also stated that he turned around and asked, “Why did you hit me?” and “Wood” replied, “You aint give me no money n*gga”. [VICTIM #1] also stated that “Wood” grabbed his pocket with his wallet inside immediately after striking him with the baton.

I later asked [VICTIM #1] if he observed the baton in “Wood’s” hand. He stated that he did. [VICTIM #1] further stated that he walked away from the altercation and stated that “Wood” told him, “Next time you better have some money for me”

[VICTIM #1] also stated that [WITNESS #1] got in between him and “Wood”. [VICTIM #1] also stated that [WITNESS #1] is familiar with “Wood”.

I did not observe any injuries on [VICTIM #1] and he denied EMS.

Cpl. Bond spoke with [WITNESS #1] and advised that she claimed to have not seen the altercation because she turned away. But she acknowledged that there was an altercation of some kind between [VICTIM #1] and “Wood”. Cpl. Bond also reviewed Ocularis footage for the area and observed [WITNESS #1] walking with a black male wearing white shoes and a dark colored jacket around the area of E 38th St and Waters Ave.

Officers advised that they were with a subject at Seiler Ave. and Waters Ave. that possibly matched the description for “Wood”. Officers also advised that he was possibly giving a false name. The subject originally gave officers the name ROBERT JOHNSON ([REDACTED BY AGENCY]/1978).

Cpl. Bond and I conducted a show-up with [VICTIM #1] by placing him in the back of my patrol vehicle and driving him to the intersection of Seiler Ave and Waters Ave. As I was driving through, [VICTIM #1] observed the subject and said, “That’s him. That’s him right there”. Cpl. Bond then asked, “When you say that’s him, what do you mean by that?”. [VICTIM #1] then replied, “That’s the one who hit me”.

The subject was then detained where he was eventually identified as ROBERT HEYWARD ([REDACTED BY AGENCY]/1979).

Interview with Robert:

I then relocated to where Robert was detained in the back of a police vehicle. I then advised him of his Miranda Warnings where he agreed to speak to me without an attorney present. The following is a summary of the interview and should not be treated as a transcript.

I asked Robert if he was involved in any altercation with another person. He stated that he was not. I asked him where he was coming from when police stopped him. He stated that he was walking from a friend’s house and met up with “[WITNESS #1]”. I asked him where he met [WITNESS #1] at, and he said, “over there” and “the middle of 38th”. He stated that he and [WITNESS #1] talked and walked.

I asked Robert if he saw anyone else on the street and he stated that he did observe other people. I asked Robert if they spoke with anyone and Robert said [WITNESS #1] was talking to, “that guy”. I asked Robert to elaborate what he meant, and he said, “bald head”. I asked Robert what he did once they were done talking and he stated that he walked off.

After this Robert said, “Oh sh*t. He said I did something?”. He further said, “I do know this, he is really crazy about her”. He also said, “He don’t like nobody with her” and “He is very fond of her”. He also stated that the other male kept trying to convince [WITNESS #1] to leave with him and she did not so it “p*ssed him off”.

I also asked Robert if he carries anything for protection. He stated that he does not because he is very well known in the neighborhood.

I also asked Robert why someone said that he attempted to rob them. He said, “Not out of nothin’ bout that girl”. I asked him again if he attempted to rob someone and he stated that he did not.

I also asked Robert why he gave a false name to officers, and he replied, “Probation”. I advised him that he did not have a violation of his probation, and he said, “Get the f*ck outta here” in surprise. He then apologized.

During the interview, Robert repeatedly slumped his head and stopped talking as if he were falling asleep. He stated he did not do any drugs today and he had a beer. Robert stated that he is a recovering crack addict. He also stated that he uses a sledgehammer for 12 hours at work.

I charged Robert with Criminal Attempt to commit Armed Robbery (16-4-1), Aggravated Assault (16-5-21), and Giving False Name, Address, or Birthdate to Law Enforcement (16-10-25).

Robert was transported to CCDC by Ofc. Phillips.

A supervisor responded.

MCU was notified.
