At 00:48hrs on 15 OCT 2025, I was dispatched to the Gadsden Courthouse at 400 W Oglethorpe Ave in reference to a male trespassing on the property. Per the call notes entered into the computer aided dispatch system by the 911 call-taker, a male was sitting on the steps of the courthouse after being advised by security staff he was not allowed to be there.
Upon my arrival on scene, I observed a black male, later identified as Mr. Ronald Mceachin, sitting on the front steps of the courthouse. I approached Mr. Mceachin and greeted him. Mr. Mceachin initially ignored me, prompting me to try to get his attention several additional times. Mr. Mceachin then acknowledged me and I asked him if he was okay. Mr. Mceachin said he was ok and just using his phone.
I told Mr. Mceachin we’d received a call from security saying he was refusing to leave and Mr. Mceachin then became verbally confrontational toward me, raising his voice, telling me he was allowed anywhere, accusing me of being illiterate and stupid, and asking me “where the f*ck,” he was going to go. I tried to verbally de-escalate the encounter, asking Mr. Mceachin for his name so I could address him using it. Mr. Mceachin refused to provide me with his name.
I then asked Mr. Mceachin if he wanted to go to a shelter, and he told me he was banned from all of them. I told Mr. Mceachin he was free to go anywhere he was allowed to, but that the courthouse security did not want him on the property. Mr. Mceachin then said he wasn’t going anywhere and began screaming at me saying he was so tired of walking around this town. As Mr. Mceachin was screaming this at me, he abruptly stood up and directed the front of his body toward me.
Believing Mr. Mceachin may have been about to advance on me to attack me, I drew my Taser and aimed it at him while issuing a verbal warning about being Tased. I radioed for my backup to expedite their response and held Mr. Mceachin at Taser point until they arrived. While waiting for my backup, I issued Mr. Mceachin numerous commands that he disregarded. These commands were to sit back down, and to come toward me (to facilitate handcuffing) after he did not sit back down as commanded.
Upon the arrival of Ofc Halpin and Ofc Monexant, I holstered my Taser and the three of us grabbed Mr. Mceachin. Mr. Mceachin immediately tensed his muscles and began pulling against us while yelling. We escorted Mr. Mceachin to the ground and held him still while I secured him in handcuffs. We then assisted Mr. Mceachin into a standing position and escorted him to the rear seat of my patrol car while he continued pulling against us and screaming. Mr. Mceachin was searched and secured in the rear seat of my patrol car.
SGT Hunt responded to the scene and was consulted at this time.
I then conducted an interview with Mr. [WITNESS #1], the courthouse security officer who’d placed the call to police. Mr. [WITNESS #1] told me he was conducting routine building checks when he noticed Mr. Mceachin sitting on the steps with his belongings strewn about the area.
Mr. [WITNESS #1] said he told Mr. Mceachin he was not allowed to stay there and Mr. Mceachin responded by becoming irate with him, throwing his phone, asking him “where the f*ck” he was going to go, yelling and cursing, and saying to Mr. [WITNESS #1]: “get the f*ck out of here or I’m going to f*ck you up,” (paraphrased). Mr. [WITNESS #1] said that due to this threat Mr. Mceachin directed at him, he disengaged with Mr. Mceachin and called police. I provided Mr. [WITNESS #1] with a case report number card.
Mr. Mceachin was then transferred to the custody of Ofc Solorzano for transport to Memorial Medical Center and the Chatham County Detention Center.
[End of Narrative]
