CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. – William Mark McCullough, an actor from Savannah, just landed a dream role in Marvel Studios’ new Captain America movie, released in North American theaters on Friday, February 14, 2025. McCullough portrays an old acquaintance of Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, in “Captain America: Brave New World.”

In this Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures film, Wilson steps into Captain America’s role and becomes involved in a potentially catastrophic international incident. Wilson looks to McCullough’s character, Commander Dennis Dunphy, a United States Navy SEAL team member, for help preventing an evil plot designed by a villain.

The movie, directed by Julius Onah, also stars Liv Tyler, Giancarlo Esposito, Harrison Ford, Shira Haas, Danny Ramirez, Tim Blake Nelson, and Carl Lumbly.

McCullough’s breakout role manifested in 2017 alongside Tom Cruise in “American Made,” a biopic by Doug Liman in which he portrayed a drug smuggler and co-pilot. Since his big break, McCullough worked with Channing Tatum in the comedy “Logan Lucky” by Steven Soderbergh, Amy Adams and Glenn Close in a biopic by Ron Howard, “Hillbilly Elegy,” and Nicolas Cage in the drama “Arsenal” by Steven C. Miller.

The Georgia actor has also worked in television, with recurring roles on several shows, including Netflix’s “Sweet Magnolias,” Fox’s “The Gifted,” AppleTV’s “Manhunt,” WGN’s “Underground,” Spectrum’s “L.A.’s Finest,” and PBS’s “Mercy Street.” Some of his guest star roles include appearances on “Quantum Leap,” “Panhandle,” “The Resident,” “The Walking Dead,” DC Universe’s “Swamp Thing,” “The Outsider,” “Saints & Sinners,” and “Cobra Kai.”

In addition to acting, McCullough works behind the camera, recently having written and directed the terrifying supernatural horror movie filmed in Savannah and released in 2021, “A Savannah Haunting.”

McCullough also dons the role of co-president of Fort Argyle Films, a film and television production company based in Los Angeles, California. Fort Argyle also works with local talent in Georgia, producing short films.
