On December 13, 2025, at approximately 0354 hours, officers of the Savannah Police Department were dispatched to [100 BLOCK] Pounder Street in response to a report of an individual with a firearm. The caller, later identified as Ms. [VICTIM #1], indicated to 911 that a male suspect had allegedly held a gun to her child’s head, escalating the call to a potential hostage situation.
Upon arrival, Corporal Hood, with his body-worn camera activated, made contact with Ms. [VICTIM #1]. She was hesitant to approach officers, repeatedly moving between them and the house, expressing fear that a male was still inside, armed. Officers set up a perimeter around the home, and as they did so, the suspect, identified as Shar’quez Johnson, fled out the back door heading south. Officers pursued on foot and established a perimeter near Waters and Gwinnett as well as Joe Lane. Mr. Johnson was ultimately apprehended without further incident.
After being read his Miranda rights by Corporal Hood, Mr. Johnson stated he understood his rights. He explained that he and Ms. [VICTIM #1] were not in a relationship but were casually spending time together, and a social media post had angered the father of Ms. [VICTIM #1]’s children. During a verbal argument that evening, Mr. Johnson admitted to punching a hole in the kitchen wall and throwing objects, but denied having seen or possessed a firearm at any point during the incident. He said he fled when he heard the police because of past encounters with law enforcement.
Detective Scott later interviewed Ms. [VICTIM #1] and Mr. Johnson. Corporal Hood did not have further interaction with Ms. [VICTIM #1] or others in the home. It was noted that multiple juveniles were in the home. Det. Scott informed Corporal Hood that, in addition to Ms. [VICTIM #1] alleging that Mr. Johnson pointed the gun at her, he also allegedly pointed the gun at Ms. [VICTIM #1]’s oldest child, [VICTIM #2] (6), while she was sleeping. Chatham County Sheriff’s Office K9 arrived on the scene with a K9 specially trained in firearm detection, but no firearm was located.
As a result of the information gathered by the detective and patrol officers, probable cause was established, and Mr. Johnson was identified as the predominant aggressor. Mr. Johnson was charged with Aggravated Assault DVA (x2), Criminal Trespass DVA, obstruction, and cruelty to children in the 3rd degree.
Corporal Hood, #63185, generated and created this report.
