While working in the downtown entertainment area, I was assisting with crowd control and clearing partygoers from the area around Kay’s Pizza when I hearda commotion. Several people were shouting that someone had a gun. I went to the area they were referring to and observed Mr. Kruse with his hands in the air, saying “he was going to shoot me”. Referring to Mr. [VICTIM #1].

Upon further inquiry, several witnesses indicated that Mr. Kruse was the one with the gun and that he had threatened Mr. [VICTIM #1]. When asked if he had a gun, Mr. [VICTIM #1] replied “no”. However, bystanders stated that Mr. [KRUSE] had a gun in his waistband. I lifted his shirt and discovered a semi-automatic pistol tucked into his waistband. The gun was removed and, I walked him over to my waiting police vehicle and had other officers guard him while I gathered more information.

I spoke with a security guard who had witnessed the incident. He stated that Mr. Kruse pulled a gun and pointed it at Mr. [VICTIM #1]’ chest. According to Mr. [VICTIM #1], Mr. [KRUSE] became upset after he interjected into a conversation, at which point Mr. Kruse threatened to kill him and pointed a gun at him.

I also spoke to two other witnesses who stated that Mr. Kruse harassing them because they were from India, and he had mentioned that he was from America. When Mr. [VICTIM #1] intervened, Mr. [KRUSE] directed the gun at him.

After talking to multiple witnesses and gathering the facts of the case, it was determined that Mr. [KRUSE] would be arrested and charged with aggravated assault due to his verbal threat and the fact that he had the means to carry it out. Mr. [VICTIM #1] was transported to the Chatham County Jail without further incident. It should be noted that both men appeared to be highly intoxicated; their speech was slurred, they were unsteady on their feet, and they were not completely coherent.
