On 11/5/2025 at approximately 2140 hours officers conducted a knock and talk at the residence of [4300 BLOCK] Augusta Road APT [REDACTED] in reference to a possible wanted subject at the address.
The front door then opened and Mr. William Mason was seen inside the residence. Mr. Mason was then placed under arrest. Handcuffs checked for proper fitting and double locked. Mr. Mason was then searched incident arrest to which only a cell phone was located in his left pocket.
I then grabbed Mr. Mason by his left arm and began walking him towards my patrol vehicle. Upon reaching my patrol vehicle I changed my grip on Mr. Mason’s arm and began opening the rear door of my patrol vehicle. Mr. Mason then immediately pulled his arm away from me and began fleeing from officers on foot. While fleeing from officers, Mr. Mason freed one hand from his handcuffs. Mr. Mason was instructed to stop multiple times by officers on scene or a taser would be deployed. After a short foot pursuit, Mr. Mason was apprehended again as a result of a use of force. Taser probes were removed from Mr. Mason and placed into evidence. Photos have been added into the report.
Mr. Mason was placed in handcuffs again, checked for proper fitting and double locked. Ms. [WITNESS #1] was also placed in leg shackles, checked for proper fitting and double locked. Mr. Mason was then placed in the rear of my patrol vehicle and secured in by a seat belt. Mr. Mason denied EMS evaluation while on scene.
Mr. Mason’s mother, Ms. [WITNESS #1], then arrived on scene and spoke with Ofc. Turner. She stated that she went into Mr. Mason’s room to look around and located a Mexico Passport. She stated the passport does not belong to him but she found it inside his room. Ms. [WITNESS #1] handed the passport over to Ofc. Turner who then handed it to me. The passport has been logged into evidence. Ms. [WITNESS #1] was advised to stay out of her sons room and to not touch any of his belongings.
Due to the possible evidence on Mr. Mason’s phone, the phone was seized and a search warrant is currently pending.
Mr. Mason was transported to Memorial Hospital where he was medically cleared. Mr. Mason was then transported to the Chatham County Detention Center where he is currently awaiting arraignment.
Mr. Mason is charged with Escape due to him being in lawful police custody and intentionally escaping from custody, slipping out of a handcuff and taking flight on foot.
Mr. Mason is charged with Obstructing or Hindering Law Enforcement Officers due to him taking flight on foot from officers while attempting to place him in the rear of a patrol vehicle.
