On 04/11/2024 at 0410 hours I, Cpl. Wilks, was dispatched by Chattooga E-911 to Floyd Atrium Health Emergency room located at 13583 Highway 27 Trion, Ga 30753 in reference to a 19 month old child testing positive for amphetamines.
On scene I was met by the charge nurse later identified as [REDACTED], who briefed me on the child’s conditions. [REDACTED] stated that at or around 0100 hours a parent and her boyfriend identified as Chelsea Lea and [REDACTED] brought in her 19 month old child. [REDACTED] stated that the original complaint from Lea was that her son had a temperature that didn’t go away so she brought him in for medical attention.
[REDACTED] stated that while under medical observations and a series of checks on the child was done, and the child checked okay with no temperature, however, he started to act weird. [REDACTED] stated that the child started to roll his eyes back into his head, arch his back, and have exaggerated reflexes. [REDACTED] stated that the child’s eye’s appeared to be dilated and his movement continued to be odd. [REDACTED] stated that she ordered a series of blood cultures for the child, and a positive result for amphetamines returned in the child’s blood.
I relocated to the patients room and spoke with Chelsea Lea who identified herself as the child’s mother. Lea stated that sometime earlier in the day a female she identified as [REDACTED] came to her house and started to use drugs. Lea stated that [REDACTED] took out a bag of drugs that she identified as methamphetamine. Lea told her to put the stuff away and leave her house immediately.
Later that night approximately around 0100 Lea stated that her son had developed a fever so she gave him some ibuprofen to see if it would help. Lea stated that she didn’t think the medicine had alleviated the child’s fever so she and her boyfriend took the child to the Atrium Health emergency room located in Trion, Ga. I collected as much information as I could during this time due ambulance service had arriving to transport the JUV to TC Thompson Children’s Hospital in Chattanooga, TN.
After speaking with Lea, I notified on all CID Inv Sanford briefing him on the incident, and also contacted DFACS. DFACS arrived at the hospital and all information regarding the child’s overdose was given to them.
