On September 18th, 2026, at approximately 2249 hours, I was conducting routine patrol on Highway 27, when I observed a gray Jeep Gladiator that matched the description of a BOLO vehicle in reference to a reckless driver who was possibly intoxicated.
I then initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle based on the premise of possible intoxication with a juvenile inside the vehicle at Highway 27 @ Rossville Boulevard, Trion, Georgia 30753. Upon approach of the vehicle, the driver was identified as Chris Nathan Wooten. While speaking to Mr. Wooten I observed a distinct odor of perfume emanating from the vehicle and Mr. Wooten wouldn’t look directly at me. He stated that the reason he was driving recklessly was because he was crying and holding his phone while talking on it.
Deputy Dawson arrived on scene, and we asked Mr. Wooten to step out of the vehicle. After Mr. Wooten exited his vehicle and I observed an odor of alcohol coming from his person. I also observed Mr. Wootens eyes were watery. Mr. Wooten did admit to drinking alcohol prior to driving.
I then began Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. I observed 6 out of 6 clues on Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus and Mr. Wooten did show lack of convergence. Mr. Wooten was not physically able to conduct the Walk and Turn test. I did observe 2 out of 4 clues on the One Leg Stand test. Deputy Dawson asked Mr. Wooten if he would consent to a Preliminary Breath Test, to which he refused. I then allowed Mr. Wooten to call someone to pick up his 8 year old juvenile daughter [REDACTED].
Mr. Wooten was then placed under arrest for O.C.G.A. 40-6-391A1 – DUI & O.C.G.A. 40-6-391L – DUI – Child Endangerment. Implied consent was read and refused.
Mr. Wooten was transported to the Chattooga County Jail with no further incident.
Handcuffs were double locked and checked for fit prior to transport.
Back seat check was conducted before and after transport.
Subject was seat belted in patrol vehicle during transport.
