On August 28, 2025, at approximately 2211 hours, City Police units were dispatched to [300 BLOCK] Woodland Avenue following multiple 911 calls reporting a physical altercation. Initial reports from E-911 indicated the involvement of three juveniles. Upon arrival, it was determined that only one male suspect, identified as Jeremy Lee Taylor Sims, initiated the altercation with the victim, [VICTIM #1].
Details of the Incident
Victim Statement
[VICTIM #1] reported that Jeremy Lee Taylor Sims arrived at his residence in an irate state, demanding to speak with [VICTIM #1]’s granddaughter, [WITNESS #1], and threatening physical violence against [VICTIM #1]. Despite multiple requests from [VICTIM #1] and his family members for Sims to leave the property, Sims refused. When [VICTIM #1] stepped outside to reiterate the request, an argument ensued. Sims attempted to kick [VICTIM #1], tripped due to his footwear, and fell. While on the ground, Sims allegedly struck [VICTIM #1] multiple times.
Upon inspection, the following injuries were observed on [VICTIM #1]:
- A laceration on the right leg, just below the knee.
- A red mark on the left leg, below the knee.
- A laceration on the right forearm, just below the elbow.
- A long laceration on the top of the head, right side, above the eye.
Photographic evidence of the injuries was collected and will be included in the case file.
Witness Statements
Two neighbors residing at [200 BLOCK] Woodland Avenue provided corroborating statements. Both witnessed [VICTIM #1] verbally instructing Sims to leave the property. They confirmed that Sims kicked and struck [VICTIM #1] multiple times while verbally threatening and taunting him.
One witness attempted to intervene by approaching the scene to assist [VICTIM #1], but Sims continued the assault and approached the witness aggressively. After the witness separated the individuals, Sims attempted to flee the scene upon learning that law enforcement had been contacted. Sims experienced difficulty starting his vehicle, a red Nissan Frontier, but managed to drive south toward Northwest Congress Street, possibly toward his residence in Trion or elsewhere in the county’s jurisdiction.
Additional Information from [WITNESS #1]
[WITNESS #1], [VICTIM #1]’s granddaughter, was interviewed inside the residence. She reported that earlier on August 28, 2025, she had a phone conversation with Sims, her ex-boyfriend. [WITNESS #1] declined Sims’ invitation to visit him, citing concerns about angering her grandfather. This refusal reportedly enraged Sims, who threatened to “beat her grandpa’s a*s.”
[WITNESS #1] explicitly told Sims not to come to the residence and stated she would not visit him. Shortly after, she heard loud banging on the front door and recognized Sims’ voice, along with her family members demanding that he leave. [WITNESS #1] remained in her grandparents’ room during the altercation to avoid confrontation. [WITNESS #1] provided a written witness statement, as did Mrs. [VICTIM #1].
Additional Evidence
[VICTIM #1]’s grandson reported receiving a text message from Sims post-incident, in which Sims expressed regret for his actions and claimed no ill feelings toward the grandson or [WITNESS #1]. A photograph of the text conversation was taken and will be included in the case file.
[VICTIM #1] also disclosed a history of abuse by Sims toward [WITNESS #1] during their relationship. He requested information on obtaining a protective order, which was provided to both [VICTIM #1] and [WITNESS #1].

A Be-On-The-Lookout (BOLO) was issued with the following details:

The BOLO was transmitted to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office and the Trion City Police Department. E-911 later provided Sims’ full name and exact address, which were relayed to both agencies as an update.
