On Thursday, December 12th at or around the time of 1038 hours, I Deputy Reeves was dispatched along with Cpl. Wilks to [50 BLOCK] Dogwood Hill, Menlo Georgia 30730. The call was in reference to a highly verbal domestic in progress with an open line, and dispatch advised to us that the female stated to dispatch that the male had a firearm and was chambering it. Deputy Mollohan then advised he would be enroute as well.
I Deputy Reeves then advised to dispatch that we were enroute, and I then turned on my emergency lights and sirens and traveled to the above address. Upon our arrival, I exited the patrol car drawing my gun and positioning myself out of line of any potential threat, while Cpl. Wilks and Deputy Mollohan readied their patrol rifles. Per Chief Woods we were to await entry until Sheriff Schrader arrived. Sheriff then advised us to give verbal commands on our units PA system.
I then began giving the residence’s verbal commands over the PA. Myself and Cpl. Wilks then heard multiple shots fired from the residence behind us. I then took cover with Cpl. Wilks, passenger side of our unit. With the above address now behind us, I then took primary on the front door of the house with my side arm, while Cpl. Wilks, and Deputy Mollohan covered the rear where we heard shots come from. I then observed a white male walking out of the garage, but I could not see his hands. I then gave the male loud verbal commands to show me his hands and face away from us. I then told the male to grab the top of his shirt and pull it up, so that I could see if he had any weapons on his person.
Then male did not appear to have any weapons visible at the time, so I gave him verbal commands to turn around and walk backwards to the sound of my voice. The male then complied, and I then detained him and did a pat down for any possible weapons on his person. Sheriff came from the back of the house and spoke with the detained subject where he later determined that he was not involved with the domestic. Sheriff stated that we should go to where the shots were fired and further investigate that.
Several deputies and myself went down and spoke with the residence across from [50 BLOCK] Dogwood Hill where where we later determined this was the active incident. Deputy Robinson made contact with a male later identified as Raymond Smith. We previously spoke with Smith moments earlier, he stated to that they were shooting targets which is where they shots were coming from. Myself and Cpl then made entry to speak with his wife.
I then had Mr. Smith stand with Captain Mitchell and Deputy Fountain, while Myself and Cpl. Wilks entered the residence to check on the female. I then made contact with a black female, who identified as [VICTIM #1]. I told [VICTIM #1] that we had gotten a call about a domestic at this residence.
She stated to me that her husband, and her had been going at it verbally for several days, and today was the day that he snapped. When I asked her to elaborate she stated that he had grabbed one of her firearms, and told her that she needed to tell her kids goodbye. She stated that Raymond was waving the gun at her, and around her kids. She went on to say that she locked the door, in attempt to keep him out of the house for she was scared of him hurting her, and her children.
I then asked if she made any attempt to leave, and she stated that she tried but Raymond then restricted her from doing so by standing on the porch with the firearm. [VICTIM #1] said that he then gave her the firearm, and told her to kill him. [VICTIM #1] then went on to say that she was scared of the way her husband was acting, and stated that she had her mother enroute for assistance with her and the children.
I told [VICTIM #1] that Mr. Smith would be going to jail for the events that occurred in front of her children, and I also gave her a victims services pamphlet with further resources, if she so needed. I then had Deputy Clark transport Raymond to the jail, without incident.
