On 3/6/2026, I conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that I noticed driving on Commerce Street with a tinted front windshield. The vehicle made its final stop on Economy Street behind the First National Bank. At that point, I approached the vehicle and made contact with the driver. I identified myself and explained the reason for the stop. The subject then provided his driver’s license and was then made known to me as Mr. Grayer.
During my initial interaction with Mr. Grayer, I noticed the odor of green marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle. I also noticed a female subject sitting in the back passenger seat of the vehicle. This subject identified herself to me as Ms. Cochran. I then traveled to the rear of the vehicle to begin running both subjects through GCIC. I also contacted Chief Ozment and informed him of the information from the traffic stop and requested that he come to assist with a search.
At that point, Chief Ozment arrived on scene and approached the vehicle. Chief Ozment spoke with Mr. Grayer and then informed him that we would be conducting a probable cause search and that he needed to turn the vehicle off and step out of it. Mr. Grayer then shifted the vehicle into drive, to which Chief Ozment reached into the vehicle and placed the car back into park. Mr. Grayer was then removed from the vehicle and placed into handcuffs. Ms. Cochran was also removed from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was then started. I located on the front passenger floorboard a white container with a green leafy substance, suspected to be marijuana, as well as other paraphernalia. Chief Ozment located a firearm under the driver’s seat as well as an open bottle of Vodka laying in the back floorboard of the vehicle.
During the search, other officers had arrived on scene and began speaking with Mr. Grayer and Ms. Cochran. During which Ms. Cochran began to fight the officers when they attempted to place her into handcuffs to be detained. Ms. Cochran was placed on the ground and handcuffed. Both Mr. Grayer and Ms. Cochran were transported to the Chattooga County Jail with no further issue. Gary’s Towing arrived and took possession of the vehicle.
The marijuana and firearm were seized and the open container of vodka was photographed, its contents poured out, and the empty bottle replaced inside the car.
