Warning: The following story contains information regarding alleged physical violence against children.
CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. – Authorities arrested 35-year-old Woodstock man John Azzolino after his 10-week-old infant arrived at the hospital with severe injuries indicative of abuse. The baby suffered serious injuries to her throat and mouth, as well as numerous broken bones in her ribs, legs, and ankles, and is currently undergoing treatment in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to suspected child abuse at Scottish Rite Hospital on Monday, June 10, 2024. They interviewed the infant’s parents and arrested her father but did not charge her mother, who has been cooperating with law enforcement during this active investigation.
Azzolino faces charges of first-degree child cruelty and two counts of aggravated battery, with additional charges likely. He remains detained without bond.
DFCS (The Department of Family and Children Services) took custody of the pair’s three-year-old child.
