On 03/26/2026, at 0447 hours, I was dispatched to a domestic dispute with injury at [1500 BLOCK] David Lee Street. Dispatch advised the caller went to a neighbors house at [1500 BLOCK] David Lee Street.

I arrived at [1500 BLOCK] David Lee Street and met with [VICTIM #1]. [VICTIM #1] came running up to me at the middle of the driveway. [VICTIM #1] seemed very upset and was crying. I noticed [REDACTED BY AGENCY] on her [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and a large [REDACTED BY AGENCY] on the [REDACTED BY AGENCY] of her [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. I was able to get [VICTIM #1] to calm down and began speaking to her about the incident.

Speaking to [VICTIM #1] I learned she and her boyfriend, Jason Freeland, got into an argument over illegal poker games and drinking. Jason shoved her into a wall with both his hands, banged her head of the wall, and after wrapped his arm around her neck and choked her. He choked her for approximately 15 seconds. She was scared. Jason took her phone after she attempted to call her mother. Jason threw her phone and after began throwing her purse, makeup bag and jewelry bag. She attempted to pick up her stuff to leave and Jason began kicking her and her belongings, keeping her from grabbing them.

During the incident, Jason “put” his dog Banner onto her and Banner began biting her. She was able to get away and ran to the neighbors house. During the argument Jason was yelling horrible things about her and brought up things about her ex-boyfriend. Jason called her a “nigg*r lover”. She does not live with Jason, but they have been dating for approximately 1-2 years.

I took photos of [VICTIM #1]’s injuries via AXON. I was able to see what appeared to be a [REDACTED BY AGENCY] on her [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. [VICTIM #1]’s voice became increasingly raspier during the interaction. [VICTIM #1] told me this was not normal for her. I asked [VICTIM #1] where Jason was and she told me he was at [1500 BLOCK] David Lee Street. Jason was known to have weapons in the past and was trying to get a ride away from the scene to get away before law enforcement arrived. Jason has had several interactions with the Cherokee Sheriffs Office and was known to be violent. Jason was possibly on felony probation. [VICTIM #1] also stated Jason had a 9mm handgun in a gun safe inside the residence.

I called On-Call CID and briefed them on the incident. After further backup arrived, we attempted to make contact with Jason. Due to the nature of events, SWAT was activated. During the incident I helped pull coverage at the front of the house while attempting to get Jason out of the house and place him under arrest. I pointed my firearm at Jason and held it until I was relieved by Deputy Place and I returned to incident command.

Jason was placed under arrest by SWAT and seen by EMS due to incident related injuries. Jason was transported by EMS Squad 20 to [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. I followed the squad with Corporal Bradshaw riding with Jason. We arrived and Jason was assessed by medical staff. I stood by with Jason until we were relieved by Deputy Cline who stood by while Jason was assessed further. CID assisted with the investigation after the scene was secured and advised on charges.

I returned to service.
