CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. – Charles Dion McDowell, an internet personality known as “Wide Neck” after his viral mugshot in 2018, is back in custody facing multiple felony charges in Georgia, authorities said.
McDowell, 36, was arrested on Feb. 19 in Cherokee County and charged with several offenses, including electronically furnishing obscene material to a minor, transmitting explicit images without consent, and making harassing phone calls, according to jail records.
Authorities allege that McDowell sent sexually explicit videos of a woman, without her consent, to the woman’s 13-year-old son, 16-year-old daughter, mother, and another individual. Investigators believe he used both a cell phone and a laptop to send the materials on multiple occasions.
McDowell first gained fame when a 2018 mugshot from an arrest in Alabama went viral due to his unusually large neck. The image propelled him to internet stardom, where he adopted the moniker “Wide Neck” and built a substantial social media following. He currently has 1 million followers on Instagram. He later attempted a rap career, collaborating with another viral figure, “Daddy Long Neck,” on a song titled Neckst Big Thing in 2020.
Despite his online popularity, McDowell has had multiple run-ins with the law. His prior arrests include charges for drug possession, reckless driving, and stalking in Alabama and Florida.
He remains in the Cherokee County Jail without bond.
