On May 26, 2022 at 1003 hours, I was patrolling west on Highway 92, Woodstock, GA. I saw a 2017 Nissan Altima (Georgia tag [REDACTED]) traveling in front of my patrol vehicle with a May 2022 registration validation decal. I ran the license plate through GCIC/NCIC, and it returned with a warrant for the registered owner Mr. Shon Marcus Grady.
I activated my emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle stopped and I approached Mr. Grady. I told Mr. Grady the reason for the stop and asked him for his driver’s license. Mr. Grady gave me his driver’s license and I had dispatch confirm the warrant. I stood outside Mr. Grady’s vehicle while waiting for dispatch to confirm the warrant. Dispatch confirmed the warrant was valid, and I had Mr. Grady relocate to the next parking lot.
I followed Mr. Grady and walked to the driver door to arrest Mr. Grady. I detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside Mr. Grady’s vehicle. I asked Mr. Grady about the marijuana odor. Mr. Gray picked up a pack of gum and retrieved a small piece of plastic bag containing a very small amount of marijuana. I had Mr. Grady destroy the marijuana. I handcuffed Mr. Grady behind his back and secured him in the back seat of my patrol vehicle.
I searched Mr. Grady’s vehicle and found an orange rubber smoking pipe in the center console containing burned marijuana, along with a blue glass pipe. I continued searching and located a silver in color tin case. I opened the case and saw three tools with burnt marijuana residue on the ends. There was also a small circular rubber container. I opened the container and saw small zip lock baggie containing a white powdery substance.
I read Mr. Grady Miranda Warning and asked him about the substance. Mr. Grady told me it was cocaine. I collected all the items and placed them in evidence using evidence control record 22-01105. Mr. Grady requested to leave his vehicle in the parking lot for his mother to pick up. I explained to Mr. Grady the Sheriff’s Office would not be responsible for his vehicle and he still requested to leave his car parked. I locked the vehicle and took the keys with me.
I transported Mr. Grady to the adult detention center relinquishing custody upon arrival. I filled out the proper incoming paperwork and turned it in to the property officer. I checked the back seat of my patrol vehicle for contraband before leaving the jail.
