On the 16th of January, 2022, at approximately 02:15, I was dispatched to [100 BLOCK] Fir Ct in reference to a suicide threat. The caller ([WITNESS #1]) stated her son, later identified as Tyler Bell, has made suicide threats all day. [WITNESS #1] told dispatch he had been gone for approximately 30 minutes. [WITNESS #1] stated she heard gunshots in her back yard and was afraid he committed suicide. When I arrived on scene, [WITNESS #1] told me her son left her a note saying something like, no one will find me.
After she told me this, she said Tyler came back to the house since she called 911. While speaking with [WITNESS #1], Corporal Gibbs noticed Tyler standing in the woods behind a tree. He was looking at us from behind the tree. Tyler had his hands in his pockets and he was told to take them out. Tyler did take his hands out of his pockets. Corporal Gibbs and I patted him down for weapons. After patting him down, we walked over to the garage. Deputy Timms and Corporal Gibbs went into the woods to try and find the gun he was allegedly shooting. After speaking with him shortly, I asked Tyler if he had a gun in the house. Tyler replied, “yes” when I asked him this question.
I got Tyler’s name and Date of birth and ran him through GCIC/NCIC. Tyler came back currently on probation. Not long after this, Corporal Gibbs and Deputy Timms came to the garage we were standing in. Deputy Timms asked Tyler if he heard the shots and he stated he did. Deputy Timms then asked Tyler if he had rifles in the house. Tyler replied with, “yes sir.” Deputy Timms asked if the rifles belonged to Tyler and he stated they did. Deputy Timms asked Tyler if he owned any pistols and he stated he did. Deputy Timms asked him where the guns were located. Tyler stated they were inside the house in a gun cabinet. Deputy Timms asked Tyler if he had access to the guns and he stated he did.
After this, Deputy Timms asked Tyler if he was on probation and he was. Deputy Timms asked Tyler what he was on probation for and he stated it was for criminal damage to property in the 2nd degree (Family Violence). Criminal damage to property in the 2nd degree is a felony. Deputy Timms then asked Tyler if he has an active fourth amendment waiver. Tyler asked Deputy Timms what this was. Deputy Timms began explaining it to him and Tyler knew what it was. Deputy Timms then asked Tyler if we could search his area of the home and he stated we could not. Sergeant Hendrix was able to check the case management program and confirmed Tyler had an active 4th amendment waiver.
We told Tyler because he has a 4th amendment waiver, we would be searching his area of the home. Tyler took us downstairs where he lives at and we began searching his area of the home. Deputy Timms and Sergeant Hendrix went into Tyler’s bedroom. In Tyler’s closet, they found an open gun locker. There was an empty gun holster in front of it and the gun locker appeared as if it rummaged through. Inside of the opened gun locker, they found a total of 8 guns inside of it.
The guns found in the gun locker were the following:
-Hi-Point 9mm SN: P1774983
-Marlin 3030 SN: 14025180
-Browning 12 Gauge SN: 432155
-Mossberg 270 SN: MPR017502
-JC Higgins 410 Gauge SN: N/A
-Heritage .22 Cal SN: Y50234
-Winchester 20 Gauge SN: L2971193
-Marlin .22 Cal SN: 01093491
After Deputy Timms and Sergeant Hendrix found the guns, I informed Tyler he was under arrest. I placed Tyler in handcuffs. I checked the handcuffs for proper fit and double locked them. I started searching Tyler’s pockets. In Tyler’s right jacket pocket, I found an orange pill bottle without a label. Inside of the pill bottle, there was a green leafy substance, suspected to be marijuana. In Tyler’s left pants pocket, I found five 9mm unspent shell casings. After finding the marijuana and unspent shell casings, I walked Tyler to my patrol car. I placed Tyler in the back-passenger seat. I placed the seatbelt on Tyler and drove him to the Adult Detention Center (ADC). When we arrived at the ADC, I booked Tyler in and released him to the Jail Deputies.
The 8 guns and suspected marijuana were placed into evidence (ECR: 22-00096). A warrant will be sworn out against Tyler for:
-Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon x8
-Possession of marijuana less than one ounce
