The following was taken from a press release distributed by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department on June 21, 2024:
CLARKE COUNTY, Ga. – On June 20th, 2024, at approximately 4:10 PM, Athens-Clarke County Police responded to 240 North Ave regarding an employee of the Day Center being attacked with a machete.
Officers located the victim with injuries to his head and face. The victim was transported by EMS with serious injuries.
At approximately 4:22 PM, ACCPD officers located the suspect and the weapon. Cedric Smith, 33, Athens, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, and Possession of a Weapon in the Commission of a Crime.
