COBB COUNTY, Ga. – A daycare worker in Kennesaw has been arrested after a toddler ingested a THC product that reportedly fell from the worker’s pocket, police said.
On Feb. 18, Acworth police officers responded to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital after a 20-month-old girl was brought in with unusual lethargy. Medical tests confirmed the presence of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive compound in marijuana, in the child’s system, authorities said.
An investigation led police to Laugh and Learn Daycare, located at 3030 Cobb Parkway in Kennesaw. Security footage showed the child ingesting a THC item that had fallen from the pocket of a teacher, identified as Zyraina Stanice Fu’cia, 24, of Acworth, police said. The footage also showed that no one checked on the girl for more than 30 minutes, even as she struggled to hold herself up.
According to sources, the child’s parents said they received a call from the daycare about the incident and took their daughter to the hospital.
Fu’cia was arrested Feb. 25 and charged with reckless conduct and cruelty to children, authorities said. She was later released from the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.
The daycare said it conducted its own investigation and has since fired Fu’cia.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Acworth Police Department at 770-974-1232.
