COBB COUNTY, Ga. – A Snellville man is facing felony charges after authorities say he left two young children in a parked vehicle outside Cumberland Mall for more than 40 minutes as temperatures soared inside.

J’quawn Dixon, the children’s father, was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree cruelty to children following the June 4 incident, according to Cobb County police and court records.

Officers responded to the mall parking lot shortly before 1 p.m. after a 911 caller reported seeing two children alone inside a vehicle with no adults in sight. Police said the children, ages 1 and 2, were found in distress and had been inside the vehicle for approximately 41 minutes without air conditioning while outdoor temperatures hovered around 80 degrees.

According to the warrant, first responders used an infrared thermometer to measure temperatures of 104 and 106 degrees in the area where the children had been seated. Officers broke into the vehicle to rescue the toddlers, who were then taken to a hospital for evaluation. Their current condition has not been released.

Dixon was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. He was released the following day on a $10,000 bond.
