On 02/27/23 at approximately 0855 Hrs. I Deputy Muniz, responded to 4800 Columbia Rd. (Gas Pro) in reference to a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was a construction vehicle concrete mixer and was located traveling onto I20 Westbound by Deputy Reeves and Deputy Santa Maria. The vehicle failed to stop once their emergency equipment was activated and a pursuit began.

I met with the driver of the vehicle, [VICTIM #1], at Gas Pro. [VICTIM #1] stated he parked the vehicle behind Gas Pro along the curb. He stated he left the vehicle to purchase items inside the gas station. [VICTIM #1] told me he had left the vehicle on with the keys in the ignition. I asked him why didn’t he turn the vehicle off and he stated cement mixers need to remain rotating or the cement would harden. [VICTIM #1] stated he was in the gas station for no more than 3 minutes and when he returned to where he had parked he noticed the vehicle was gone. [VICTIM #1] called 911 immediately after.

The pursuit continued on I20 West where the suspect, Erik Brodie, was taken into custody by Georgia State Patrol at the 142 mile marker. The vehicle was also recovered. Gas Pro and Circle K video evidence was obtained by Inv. Brown which were placed on the Evidence Drive.

Arrest warrants for Motor Vehicle Theft (OCGA 16 8 2(f)) Fleeing and Attempting to Elude (OCGA 40 6 395(5)A) were obtianed and by Judge Dale Jenereaux. Citations for Reckless Driving, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude (misd), and Disregard a Traffic Control Device (red light) were also issued by Dep. Reeves.
