Grovetown Man Throws Knives at Aunt, Shoots Passing Cars with Shotgun

Grovetown, GA – On March 22, 2020, Columbia County police responded to a residence in the 4100 block of Nicoles Lane in Grovetown for a report of a domestic dispute between a couple and their nephew, Nathan Witkowski, who had been staying in the couple’s home recently.

According to a police report filed by the Columbia County Sherrif’s Office, Witkowski used a rocking chair to destroy the front window of the home, while chanting “they are here”.

After confronted, Witkowski began throwing knives at the aunt, as her husband pleaded with her to leave the house.

Witkowski then loaded a shotgun and left the residence in the couple’s vehicle.

Richmond Police apprehended Witkowski after he parked the vehicle on Riverwatch Parkway and began firing at passing vehicles.

Deputies responded to the listed address for a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, deputies observed the front door of the listed residence open and a front window that had been destroyed. Deputies announced their presence and then entered the residence in order to secure the residence.

After securing the residence, the homeowner, [REDACTED] [REDACTED], returned on scene. [REDACTED] was hiding at his neighbor’s house at [REDACTED] Nicole’s Lane.

[REDACTED] stated that at approximately 2300 hours he was awoken from his sleep to the sound of glass shattering [REDACTED] then came downstairs to discover that his nephew, Nathan Witkowski, who had been staying there recently, had used a rocking chair to destroy the front window of the home.

[REDACTED] asked Nathan why he was destroying the home and Nathan was obsessively ranting “they are here”. [REDACTED] stated that Nathan was recently hospitalized for mental issues.

[REDACTED]’s wife, [REDACTED] [REDACTED], then came downstairs to see what was going on. Nathan then continued his
erratic behavior by grabbing several knives from the kitchen and throwing them at [REDACTED] (her).

At this point, [REDACTED] ran out of the house and was pleading for his wife to follow him. [REDACTED] tried to reason with Nathan who then grabbed a 12 gauge shotgun. Nathan racked two rounds through the shotgun and screamed “it’s time to get out” and “you better fu**ing run”.

[REDACTED] and [REDACTED] then ran down to their neighbors home at [REDACTED] Nicole’s Lane. [REDACTED] observed Nathan get into his black Nissan Altima and attempt to find him and [REDACTED]. After Nathan’s unsuccessful attempt to locate [REDACTED] and [REDACTED], he left the neighborhood.

[REDACTED] believed that Nathan was then heading to his ex-girlfriend’s grandparents’ home in order to locate his
ex-girlfriend. Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was then notified that Nathan was apprehended by Richmond County Sheriff’s Office after Nathan stopped his vehicle in the middle of Riverwatch Parkway and began firing at vehicles with the aforementioned shotgun.

Warrants were obtained through and signed by Judge Hornsby .

Warrants were entered by dispatcher Hall at 0127 hours with NIC# W790662803.
