On March 3, 2026 I responded to [REDACTED BY AGENCY], in reference to an assault.
On the way to the call, I was informed by dispatch that a male on scene had hit another male with a baseball bat. Dispatch advised the male, then left the scene.
I arrived on scene and observed the male walking in the roadway on Welcome to Sargent Rd. With all the information I had at the time of the incident, I made the decision to detain the male later identified as Allen Mathis. I then made my way back to the incident location, where I made contact with the victim [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. I spoke with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] about the incident, he essentially stated that he lives at the incident location and he arrived on scene and was helping [WITNESS #1] remove trash from the yard.
[REDACTED BY AGENCY] advised Allen then approached him in an aggressive manner, carrying a bat. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated he pulled his phone to record the incident but Allen knocked the phone out of his hand. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] advised Allen broke his phone, when he knocked it out of his hand. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] informed me the phone cost approximately $100 to replace.
[REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated Allen then struck him in the neck with the aluminum bat, causing a red mark on the neck of [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated then a physical altercation took place, where [WITNESS #1] had to intervene, by separating the two.
Pictures were taken of the incident. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] filled out a statement form. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] did have an injury on his hand, but it was self-inflicted from him punching an object after the incident took place.
I spoke with [WITNESS #1] on the incident and he advised that his brother Allen approached [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and hit him with a bat. [WITNESS #1] wasn’t really able to provide much information on the incident, but he did fill out a statement form.
I spoke with [WITNESS #2], who is the mother of Allen and [WITNESS #1]. [WITNESS #2] advised she did not witness much, but did observe Allen walking with a bat after the incident took place. Due to Allen being in handcuffs in my backseat, I attempted to read him, his Miranda rights but he continued to interrupt me so it was taken as he did not want to speak with me.
Without me asking, Allen blurted out “I just smacked the phone out of his hand”. Allen also stated that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] began recording me, so he smacked the phone out of [REDACTED BY AGENCY] hand. Allen stated he never had a bat during the incident. All parties involved live at the incident location with each other. I was able to observe the bat on the porch and I took pictures.
With all the information I had at the time of the incident, I made the decision to place Allen under arrest. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] was notified, and I transported Allen to the detention center.
