On 11/24/25 at 1208 hours I, DS Purdon, responded to a private property accident at 3150 E HWY 34 (Kroger).
Upon arrival, I met with the caller [REDACTED BY AGENCY] who stated that she was shopping inside the store when the accident occurred. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that when she got out to her vehicle, a witness ([WITNESS #1]) informed her that a suspect vehicle (2015 Honda pilot, Ga tag [REDACTED], VIN [REDACTED]) sideswiped [REDACTED BY AGENCY] vehicle (2017 ford escape, Ga tag [REDACTED], VIN [REDACTED]) and then left the area. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that [WITNESS #1] saw the suspect vehicle park in another spot near the nail salon and then showed [REDACTED BY AGENCY] where it was located.
[REDACTED BY AGENCY] was standing by the suspect vehicle when I made contact with her in the Kroger parking lot. The suspect vehicle was not occupied at the time and I relocated to the incident location (where [REDACTED BY AGENCY] vehicle was parked). I requested E911 make contact with the registered owner (Brenda Newman) of the suspect vehicle in the meantime. E911 made negative contact, however left several voicemails.
I observed some damage on [REDACTED BY AGENCY] rear driver side bumper and tail light. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that she was not in her vehicle when the incident occurred. I issued and explained a case card to [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] provided me [WITNESS #1]’s information. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] then stated that she believed the suspect vehicle just drove off. I relocated back to the suspect vehicle’s location and made negative contact with the vehicle. I called the registered owner of the suspect vehicle several times and made negative contact (voicemail).
I called [WITNESS #1] and she stated that she was in the parking lot when the suspect vehicle was turning right into an empty parking space next to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] unoccupied vehicle. [WITNESS #1] stated that the suspect vehicle’s front passenger side bumper made contact with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] rear driver side tail light/bumper.
[WITNESS #1] stated that the driver of the suspect vehicle was an older white woman and that she was the only occupant in the suspect vehicle. [WITNESS #1] stated that the suspect vehicle had to conduct several maneuvers going back and forth before being able to park correctly in the parking spot adjacent to the [REDACTED BY AGENCY] vehicle. [WITNESS #1] stated that the suspect vehicle sat in the parking spot next to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] vehicle for approximately 5 minutes before leaving the scene of the accident.
[WITNESS #1] stated that she saw the suspect vehicle park over near the nail salon (several rows across the parking lot). [WITNESS #1] stated that she notified [REDACTED BY AGENCY] of the vehicle’s location before leaving the parking lot.
I later requested that DS Weber attempt to make contact with Newman at her registered address ([100 BLOCK] Joe Ben Lee Rd, Newnan Ga). DS Weber made contact with Newnan and found the suspect vehicle with damage to the front passenger side bumper. DS Weber stoodby with Newman until I was able to respond to the address.
Upon arrival, Newman stated that she was at Kroger earlier today and that she was involved in a private property accident in the parking lot. Newman stated that she did not think the damage was that bad and she waited for the owner of the other vehicle for about 5 minutes. Newman stated that she left the area without notifying the other party or E911. I found Newman’s front passenger side bumper cracked open with fresh silver paint scuffs.
I placed Newman under arrest for hit and run. I handcuffed Newman to the front (due to her age), double locked, and checked for fit. I transported Newman to 745 Poplar Rd (Piedmont Newnan Hospital) for medical clearance. Once cleared from the hospital, I transported Newman to 560 Greison Trail (CCSO) and released her to the jail’s custody. I issued Newman a citation for hit and run.
