On 08-22-2025 at 1633 hours while working an extra duty position at Piedmont Newnan Hospital I was watching a patient who had attempted to leave the hospital three other times while being an [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. The Pathways sitter stated he was on a OTA (order to apprehend) with pathways which means he was involuntarily committed by a Carroll County probate judge. [REDACTED BY AGENCY].
The fourth time he exited his room #22 in the emergency department he stated he was not going to leave he just need to go to the restroom. I escorted him to the restroom between room 23 and 24. He came out of the restroom completely nude holding a container of urine in his hand. He told me to leave him alone or he was going to throw the urine on me. I held my hands up in a non threatening position trying to get him to hand me the container. He circled around still threatening to throw it on me and I was able to slap it out of his hand, at which he began to run off toward the exit.
I had ahold of his arm running behind him. I slipped on his urine that scattered up the hallway. The momentum we had caused him to run into the door as I was falling. As I went to the ground I hit my head, left elbow and left knee causing injury to my knee and elbow. I recovered after he hit the door and fell onto the floor where I observed he was bleeding from his face while I was trying to handcuff him. I called for more help to get his injuries treated immediately. He was picked up and placed on a bed and returned to his room where emergency staff treated his injuries.
I was not able to activate my BWC at the time of the incident. I was advised that hospital camera’s caught the entire event. The patient was sedated and restrained by hospital staff.
