[NARRATIVE #1 on June 23, 2021]
On June 23, 2021, I responded to [3400 BLOCK] Tommy Lee Cook Rd in reference to a report of a gunshot victim.
Upon arrival, Deputy Binion and I entered the house from the garage. Inside, I heard a female crying; so we made our way to her in the bedroom. Once inside the bedroom, I observed a naked male, identified as [VICTIM #1], lying face down on the floor with a female, identified as Cheryl Coe who was applying a white towel to a gunshot wound. Moments after our arrival, [VICTIM #1] sat up from the lying down position at which point I observed a large gunshot wound underneath his left arm (ribcage area) that was bleeding severely.
Once EMS arrived, we had Cheryl exit the house. I stood by with Cheryl until she was interviewed by the coroner and CID.

On the date of 06/23/2021 at 1926 hrs, Dispatch advised Deputies of a gunshot/stab wound call at [3400 BLOCK] Tommy Lee Cook Rd. While I was en route, dispatch advised a male victim was accidentally shot.
Upon my arrival, I met with several other officers and medical staff who were on the scene. I signed a crime scene log and entered through the front door. I observed a female subject, Cheryl Coe, sitting on the front porch crying hysterically. I then walked into the first bedroom on the left and made contact with D/S Mathewson and medical staff who were performing life-saving measures on the victim, [VICTIM #1].
I observed EMS performing CPR. I noticed [VICTIM #1] was lying in a pool of blood and was unresponsive. I looked across the room and observed a black handgun lying on the floor near the right side of the bed. I also observed what appeared to be two vibrators, a bottle of lubricant, and what appeared to be water all over the floor and bed. I heard Cheryl tell responders the firearm was a 9mm handgun, U/K Serial #, Make, or model.
The medical staff then stopped working on [VICTIM #1] and the Coroner’s Office was called. I exited the home and began securing the perimeter of the home with crime scene tape.
CID arrived on the scene and took over the investigation.

[NARRATIVE #3 on June 23, 2021]
On 06/23/2021 at 1926 I was dispatched to [3400 BLOCK] Tommy Lee Cook Rd in reference to a gunshot wound. Upon my arrival, myself and Deputy Kee made entry into the residence from a side garage door. Upon entering the residence we identified ourselves as Sheriffs Office, to which a male and female voice replied “help”. Upon entering the master bedroom, I observed a nude w/m, later identified as [VICTIM #1], lying on his stomach. A W/F, later identified as Cheryl Coe, was holding a white in color bath towel to the left under arm/rib cage area of [VICTIM #1]. I advised Cheryl to keep applying pressure, and to not remove the towel. I then advised 911 dispatch that we needed EMS immediately.
At this time [VICTIM #1] attempted to sit up, at which time Cheryl lost her pressure on the wound. The wound then erupted with what appeared to be very dark in color clotted blood. I advised [VICTIM #1] to lay back down, and [VICTIM #1] kept stating “I can’t breathe”. EMS finally arrived on scene, and that was about the time that [VICTIM #1] had stopped breathing.
While EMS was working on [VICTIM #1], I removed Cheryl from the bedroom into the dining area. I asked Cheryl what had happened. Cheryl stated that she had been on the back deck drinking 5 Angry Orchard beers, while [VICTIM #1] was up in the shop on their property. Cheryl stated that she had come in and taken her medicine and laid down. Cheryl stated that she heard [VICTIM #1] come into the residence from outside, and began yelling. Cheryl stated that she became scared, and grabbed her pistol. Cheryl stated that when [VICTIM #1] entered the bedroom, she shot him.
At this time EMS advised that [VICTIM #1] was deceased, and CID was contacted. Upon CID arrival the scene was turned over to them.

[NARRATIVE #4 on June 23, 2021]
On June 23,2021, I (Inv. Stapler) was contacted by Cpt. Elaine Jordan regarding a murder that had occurred at [3400 BLOCK] Tommy Lee Cook Rd. Newnan, Ga 30263.
Upon being contacted by Cpt. Jordan, I made my way to the above location to assist Inv. Jason Brooks with the scene. When I arrived on scene Inv. Brooks was in the process of obtaining a search warrant for the residence. I waited outside the residence until the search warrant was completed so that we could enter the residence. The search warrant was obtained, and entry was made after Inv. Wade took photos of the outside and front entry door of the residence.
As we entered the residence it was determined that the victim [VICTIM #1] was in the master bedroom. Before entry into the master bedroom, which was located off the kitchen area, Investigators began to walk around to get an overall look at the backyard of the residence and living room area. After the initial walk through, I began to process the scene by placing evidence markers near shell casings, guns, medication, bottles, and the victim. Once evidence markers were placed, Inv. Wade came through to photograph and document each marker.
Photos were completed of the scene. at which time I began to preserve and collect evidence that was on the scene. During the process of collecting evidence I was able to collect multiple items which will be detailed in Inv. Brooks report. Property sheets were completed for each item that was collected, along with a property bag that was labeled to match the property sheet.
A chain of custody was started for each piece of evidence that was collected. After completing the collection and documentation for each piece of evidence it was turned over to Inv. Brooks for his investigation.
Report Completed

[NARRATIVE #5 on June 23, 2021]
I received a phone call from an employee with Carroll County Sheriff’s Office who told me she was out in public on 6-24-21 at a dining establishment and was approached by someone who asked her if she was familiar with this case.
She told him she was. The male [WITNESS #1] proceeded to say that he was getting messages from Cheryl Coe approximately 40 minutes prior to her calling 911, as far as he knew. The messages were of a sexual nature. Mr. [WITNESS #1] said he was an old friend of Cheryl’s but had not had any contact with her since 2018, when he and his then wife had a falling out with the Coe’s.
[WITNESS #1] was told to keep the messages and that his contact information would be passed on to this agency. [WITNESS #1]’s cellphone is [REDACTED BY AGENCY].

[NARRATIVE #6 on June 23, 2021]
On June 23, 2021, myself, Inv. Brooks and Inv. Wade were performing a search warrant at an unrelated location, when we received the call to respond to [3400 BLOCK] Tommy Lee Cook Road in reference to an accidental shooting. Upon our arrival, the scene had already been secured with crime scene tape, and numerous patrol, EMS and CCFD personnel were on scene.
Deputy Freeland provided us with a crime scene log, while Deputy Binion and Chief Flanagan told us what had occurred to that point. During this time, we observed a white female crying hysterically in the front yard. We were advised this was Cheryl Coe, the wife of the deceased, [VICTIM #1].
After being on scene a short time, myself and Inv. Brooks returned to the Sheriff’s Office to obtain a search warrants. Based on statements that Cheryl had been drinking and taking medication, a search warrant for her blood, as well as one for the residence were obtained. These warrants were signed by the on call magistrate Judge Stokely.
After the signing of the warrants, myself and Inv. Brooks returned to the scene. After arrival, we were advised of additional locations on the property that evidence may be located, so I returned to the office to obtain an additional search warrant for the outbuildings on the property. This search warrant was also signed by on call magistrate Judge Stokely.
I then returned to the scene again and assisted Inv. Brooks with scene processing and evidence collection. Numerous items were collected, and the entire scene was photographed. These items were all then transported by myself, Inv. Stapler and Inv. Brooks to the Sheriff’s Office. Before leaving the scene, I assisted in the removal of all crime scene tape, materials and waste that had been on scene throughout the incident.
While at the office, we continued with the investigation while Inv. Wade conducted an interview with Cheryl Coe. At the conclusion of this interview, I then stood by with Inv. Brooks as he obtained arrest warrants for Cheryl Coe on the charges of Murder and Aggravated Assault. After these search warrants were signed by Judge Stripling, I ended my shift.

Do you know what time that was?
CC: “I have no idea.”

Then I called 911 and they told me to put the towels where it was. I couldnt see where it came out any where I put pressure on it like they told me. He was breathing He needed a chest tube he was breathing but I told them to hurry. He was talking to me when they came in.”

CC: “No in the morning. When we talked everything was fine then through text messages everything went wrong and we got into an argument through text messages.”
CC: “I never talked to him he wouldnt answer me. He wouldnt call me he wouldnt tell me where he was going. He said he needed time to cool off. I sat on the back porch and listened to him load his pan handle up on his sons truck and take it off. I assumed he was going to his friends Art or Steve’s. I asked him to wait until after 9 oclock to come home so that I would be in bed asleep since he didnt want to talk to me.”
Would there be other nights that you would go to bed before he came to bed?
CC: “No we always went to bed together.”
Always every single night?
CC: “Unless there was an argument.”

CC: “Either that or I would go to bed in the spare bedroom.”
Had there ever been another time where he would come in the bedroom and go to sleep when you were already asleep?
CC: [REDACTED BY AGENCY] I was sound asleep whenever he got home. I opened the text message this morning saying his bike broke down at his friend Steve’s and he was trying to get it running. I had to leave at 6:30 am he usually wakes up at 6:30 am since we werent talking and he didnt have anything to say I didnt wake him up. I left hot coffee in the maker and everything where it needed to be.”
What time do you normally go to bed?

CC: “On my nightstand or in my drawer.”
Where was it today?
CC: “On my nightstand because I was here alone last night and I put it on the nightstand since I was here alone and I didnt move it when I left this morning.”
So you put it there last night and it stayed there?
CC: “Yes.”
Who is it registered to?
CC: “He bought it for me so I assume its registered to him. Then he made me go get my concealed carry permit.”

CC: “Well I screamed but not loud I grabbed the gun that was the first reaction was to reach over because he had it layed on the nightstand so I could put my hand on it. My side of the bed faces the door coming in.”
When did you realize it was [VICTIM #1]?
CC: “Thats when he said you shot me cause I could tell his voice.”
Then what did you do?
CC: “I jumped to find where I had shot him. I lifted his arm and thats when I saw it. Called 911 grabbed towels. Grabbed a towel put it on the hole didnt see where it came out. Cause I had one hand there and one hand on his back trying to make sure I could get as much pressure. He told me to move my hand off of his back. So I moved my hand off his back and started pushing with both hands.”
Did he say anything else?
CC: “He said he couldnt breathe.”

CC: “I threw it on the floor in the bedroom its got my ID and everything in it. As soon as I heard the driveway alarm go off I threw the phone down cause I knew somebody was here. Somebody was gonna be here.”
Cheryl these are questions I need to ask you. What specifically were you both arguing about? Was it another female. Was he talking about maybe divorce or you talking about divorce? Any of that stuff come up?
CC: “No.”
Nothing like that?
CC: “Can these gentleman step away.”
Yes.This is just stuff we need to gather.
CC: “We live in an alternative lifestyle. Where we are with other couples other individuals. Since I started menopause last summer or summer before last and we finally got my hormones straight he suggested that we go into an open marriage.”
When was this?
CC: “I know it was pool season cause thats when he suggested it.”
Was that last year?
CC: “Yeah. We were in an alternative lifestyle 6 months after we were together cause I was in it by myself and then he was in it by himself and we decided for the first 6 months we would focus on our relationship. That time I donated a kidney. [VICTIM #1] asked me to marry him on my birthday in April.”
What year?
CC: “2016.”
What was the argument about?
CC: “Monday I decided since we went into an open marriage he would see other people I would see other people. Monday we got into an argument I was like lets just dont do this anymore. Ever since we started the open marriage its been an issue. Everything was ok Monday night he sent a message to the women he was talking to and told them we decided that wasnt a good idea. On tuesday morning we talked about it some more. We decided we would try it again. I sent a message to the second woman he sent a message also apologizing to them and telling them it was just me over reacting. Everything was ok. Later that day I got a message from a friend of mine that he was interested telling me he had texted her and told her about mine and her conversation the day before because I sent her a message and told her it had absolutely nothing to do with her. It was about us and where we needed to be or us getting where we needed to be.”
That was Tuesday?
CC: “That was Tuesday afternoon. She sent me a message and told me [VICTIM #1] had text her and told her that I told her about mine and her conversation on MOnday and it was a misunderstanding. Because of where I work and what I do I try to keep everything extremely private. [VICTIM #1] has mis-spoken numerous times about the life that we live and people he doesnt need to talk to about it.”
Who specifically?
CC: “I dont even know their names. He will say he is in an open marriage and I dont want that out there. We have had issues with it before. I have had private conversations with him and he will say something to that person.”
He was suppose to be working on it and when I got that message from her I told him of stepping over that boundary again. He got very upset with me. I asked him to send me a snap shot of the conversation he wouldnt do it. Wouldnt do it. I should have to trust him. He came home yesterday said he didnt want to talk to me didnt want to see me. I sat on the back porch while he loaded up his bike on the trailer and left and I sent him a message whether your here or at this one please wait until 9 oclock so I can be in bed asleep before you get home. Since he didnt want to talk to me I just didnt want to deal with it. I went to bed. This morning I woke up to the text message 10 something cause I had my phone on vibrate. I woke up to text message saying his bike broke down and he was trying to get it running so he could get home. I dont know when he got home. He came in sometime after that.”
CC: “When I got home this afternoon Like had sent me a message about 3 something saying he had time to cool down and he was ready to talk and I told him I wasnt sure that I was ready to talk That I had some things to do after work. He asked me what. I said its nothing sexual I didnt want him to think I was going to meet somebody or do anything like that. I said its just me stuff. I came home he is out in the shop with music blaring. [WITNESS #5] is out in the shop. [WITNESS #5] came in when I was putting the angry orchard in the refrigerator. He asked me to put the wild turkey back in the freezer cause his dad asked him for a shot and [WITNESS #5] couldnt find the glasses. I got an angry orchard sat on the couch on the back screened in porch smoked a cigarette.”
What was your husband wearing when you shot him?
CC: “He was naked.”
Do you know why he was naked?
CC: “Probably because he got grease all over his clothes and took them off in the laundry room.”
Was he wet? Was his hair wet?
CC: “Sweaty when I got to him it was sweaty.”
Do you know why there would be water on your side of the bed?
CC: “Cause I knocked over a glass of water.”
There was water on the stand?
CC: “Yeah.”
So there will be a cup in there?
CC: “Should be.”
Thats why the bed was wet?
CC: “Yes.”
Did he pressure you into this lifestyle or something you freely wanted to do?
CC: “We were already in that lifestyle this was just an alternative lifestyle that was just a different step in it. I wouldnt say that he pressured me. When I got my hormones right he felt like he couldnt keep up with me so he put that on the table so we can try it. Agreement I dont do something your not doing that your not in agreement with. We made rules. When I talked to him on Monday it just seemed like it was getting to be a problem for him. Every argument we have had we dont fight he has never layed a hand on me. Every argument that we have had has been about that.”
Was he upset that you were with men was he getting jealous or was it the other way around?
CC: “No wanting it to be more private. He would drink too much and talk about things.”
So last night [VICTIM #1] came home sometime after 12 and came to bed right?
CC: “He was in bed when I woke up this morning.”
Did he wake you up when he got into bed last night?
CC: “No.”
So last night did [REDACTED BY AGENCY]
CC: “Everynight.”
Were you drinking last night?
CC: “I had a Captain morgan and a diet Dr. Pepper.”
Normal routine?
Shakes her head yes.
You didnt hear him come in last night?
Shakes her head no.
Does he normally come to bed with no clothes on?
CC: “Yeah we sleep with no clothes on.”
What was he wearing today?
CC: “I dont know I didnt see him he was in the shop when I got home.”
When you went to bed this evening did you have any clothes on?
CC: “No.”
When did you put your clothes on?
CC: “When I knew 911 was coming I was holding that on him and putting clothes on at the same time.”
Did you touch [VICTIM #1] before you got your clothes?
CC: “Im sure I did cause I was trying to figure out where the blood was coming from while I was on the phone with 911 holding that with one hand and putting clothes on with the other because I knew the EMT’s were coming. I didnt know what was going to happen.”
Did you have to leave your bedroom to get the towels?
CC: “I went to the bathroom to get the towels.”
Nothing in the bedroom you could have grabbed to put on him?
CC: “No.”
Where was the chair that had your clothes on it in relation to where he was laying?
CC: “He ended up under it and I moved it white wicker chair in there.”
These clothes you put on were in the wicker chair?
CC: “Uh huh yes.”
Are you right or left handed?
CC: “Right handed.”

I had too many angry orchards so I went to sleep very easily [REDACTED BY AGENCY] I closed the bedroom door cause I was trying to block out all the light I could. All I remember is the bedroom door flinging open and into the wall. It startled me I couldnt see anything. I couldnt see who it was I was half asleep.”
Was the television on?
CC: “Yes the television was on.”
Was the bathroom door open or closed?
CC: “Closed.”
CC: “I had the volume down on the television I was laying on my side. When the door swung open all I could think of was somebody came in the house thats why that gun is there thats why he bought me that gun was to protect myself. I had it out last night cause I was home alone. Well I didnt know wether I was home alone or not at that point. I grabbed it I shot I saw a figure and shot once and then I shot again. Did you ever wash your hands after?
CC: “No.”
How did the cup end up on the other side of the room on the floor?
CC: “I dont remember. I do not remember. I remember the cup being on the nightstand.”

CC: “At this point no I dont.”
You said you were to dazed and didnt really know who was screaming and yelling or what they were saying. Now your telling us that someone swung open the door and didnt say anything until you fired the second shot and then he said you shot me then you realized it was your husband. We are just trying to make sense of all of this. If there was an argument or something before the shooting tell us now so we can help you. I feel there is a piece thats missing that your not being truthful. We are trying to get you to explain that to us. Right now none of this makes sense.
Cheryl places both of her hands over her face.
CC: “When he came in he flung the door open and he was yelling at me.”
Who is he?
CC: “[VICTIM #1]. He was yelling throwing things grabbed a hold of me and told me if I wasnt gonna talk to him that I had to go to sleep in the other room. He was pulling me out of the bed. I grabbed the gun from the side of the bed and I fired it at the ceiling.”
Was that a warning shot?
CC: “No that was I am scared especially when he was drinking. I dont know wether he had been drinking or not. They were both suppose to be warning shots. I wasnt trying to hit him.”
Where was [VICTIM #1] when you fired the second shot?
CC: “He had turned around and came back in the doorway.”
You fired the first shot?
CC: “Yeah then he started moving back like he was coming back in there to drag me out of there so I fired the second shot and I was trying to shoot the wall.”
Were you standing or still in the bed when you were firing the rounds?
CC: “By the time I shot the second one I was standing.”
When you fired the first round over his head was he trying to leave the room. What was he doing?
CC: “He was going after something and I dont know what he was going after.”
Did he say anything to you?
CC: “He was mad he was screaming yelling at me telling me get my ass out of the bed and go sleep in the other bed if I wasnt going to talk to him. If I wasnt gonna get up and talk. At that point I wasnt where I could get up and talk. I gotten past that point it was senseless for us to talk at that point. I just wanted to be left alone and he wasnt having it. He was dragging me out of the bed.”
Why was he naked?
CC: “I dont know it could have been because he was working on the bike. A lot of times he will take his clothes of in the laundry room.”

[NARRATIVE #8 on June 23, 2021]
On Wednesday, June 23rd, 2021 at approximately 1926 hours 911 received a call in reference to a shooting located at [3400 BLOCK] Tommy Lee Cook Road, Newnan Georgia, 30263. Deputy Gabe Binion arrived on scene at 1930 hours, followed by several other patrol deputies. Upon entering the home, deputies heard cries for help from a male and female in the bedroom.
Coweta County Sheriff’s Office Personnel on scene observed the resident later identified as Cheryl Coe applying pressure to a gunshot wound in the chest area of her husband, [VICTIM #1]. He was face down, propped up on his elbows. Deputies rendered aid to [VICTIM #1] until Coweta County EMS Personnel arrived on scene. At this point EMS continued to render aid to [VICTIM #1], but he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
Coweta County Fire Chief [REDACTED] advised investigators that [VICTIM #1] was deceased, and The Coweta County Coroner had been paged out to this residence. Deputy Coroner Gary Stallings responded to the scene. Cheryl Coe had initially provided a statement to Investigator Shawna Wade that she had consumed approximately five Angry Orchard alcoholic beverages. Along with the alcoholic beverages Cheryl [REDACTED BY AGENCY].
[SECTION REDACTED BY AGENCY]
The initial statement made by Cheryl Coe to Inv. Wade continued in that she had consumed the alcoholic beverages, the [REDACTED BY AGENCY], then laid down in the bed. This was between 6:30 and 7 PM. While lying down the bedroom door burst open, not knowing, or realizing who was entering Cheryl Coe picked up a Smith and Wesson 9mm Handgun from the bedside table and fired twice at the unknown individual. The first 9mm round missed the individual, the second struck them, the statement was then made that “you shot me.” At this point Cheryl Coe realized she had shot her husband, [VICTIM #1].
Cheryl exited the bed phoning 911, then rendered aid until emergency personnel arrived on scene to take over and escort her from the bedroom. This interview was captured by the body worn camera of Inv. Wade.
Search warrants were obtained for this residence, the blood of Cheryl Coe, the curtilage, and vehicles. The crime scene was then processed by Investigators Wade, Robertson, Beckom, Stapler, and Brooks. It remained secured by uniform patrol personnel and properly taped off. Deputy Coroner Stallings was also on scene.
While the crime scene was continuing to be processed the decision was made to transport Cheryl Coe to The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office for a formal interview. She agreed to do so. It was decided this interview would be conducted by Inv. Shawna Wade and Coweta County Assistant District Attorney [WITNESS #2]. During this second interview at The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office Cheryl Coe signed a Miranda Waiver and participated in the interview. Cheryl again stated she observed a figure in the doorway, then she shot at it. Upon hitting the figure with one of the gunshots it yelled, you shot me. Cheryl now realized she had shot her husband.
During the interview Cheryl re-stated she went to bed at 7:15 PM, however the 911 call was made at approximately 7:26 PM. ADA [WITNESS #2] also advised Cheryl at this hour there would be natural light still entering her uncovered window(s) which could have aided in lighting the bedroom. How could she not have realized who was entering the room prior to the sun setting. Cheryl began explaining she and [VICTIM #1] had a disagreement that had lasted several days over they’re alternative marriage which is open. They have an agreement the two can have sexual relations with other people. They had agreed to talk today in an attempt to settle the disagreement. Cheryl came home from the grocery store thinking the two were going to talk out the issues.
Cheryl returned home and realized [VICTIM #1] was in the garage working, his music was blaring. She sat on the rear patio and began drinking the Angry Orchard Beverages. [VICTIM #1] never came to the house to talk to Cheryl, so she decided to go to bed. Cheryl stated she took her medicine, turned on a heating pad, then went to bed.
A short while later [VICTIM #1] entered the bedroom and told her to get up, then grabbed her legs and/or feet trying to pull her from the bed.
The conversation the moved to Inv. Wade asking Cheryl if [VICTIM #1] ever put his hands on her? The answer was that [VICTIM #1] gets aggressive when he gets turned on and slaps hard enough that he usually leaves marks on Cheryl’s body. It was described she’s gotten used to this treatment during sex.
Tonight, [VICTIM #1] appeared angrier, that type of aggression usually comes out playing in the pool or when practicing BDSM. BDSM is an acronym for a variety of sexual practices that involve bondage, dominance, and submission/sadomasochism. The practice usually involves partners taking on specific roles in which one partner is dominant and the other is submissive. It pleases him and is a turn on, so Cheryl works with it. Tonight, was no playfulness prior to him barging in the bedroom. He ripped the pillow from between Cheryl’s legs and told her to get up and talk to him, if not she had to sleep in the other bed.
[VICTIM #1] exited the bedroom, then returned with the door still open. [VICTIM #1] stomped in, Cheryl grabbed the handgun and shot it one time missing [VICTIM #1] and striking the wall. It was stated by Cheryl she purposely hit the wall in hopes he would leave or scare him. Consistent with this description of the incident there is one gunshot present in the upper wall exiting the master bedroom in the living room wall.
The second shot Cheryl took toward [VICTIM #1] standing from her bedside she intended to strike the wall behind the television, again to scare him or make him leave. This 9mm round struck [VICTIM #1], there is one gunshot in the left torso of [VICTIM #1] between his left ribcage and armpit, the bullet did not exit and caused his death lying in the bedroom floor. Please do not consider this report a transcription of the interviews conducted for this report. This is a summary and the videos are available for review from each documented interview.
In a review of O.C.G.A. 16-5-21 which is Aggravated Assault and is defined as a person commits the offense of aggravated assault when he or she assaults with a deadly weapon or with any object, device, or instrument which, when used offensively against a person, is likely to or actually does result in serious bodily injury. This code section is applicable to this incident as described by the actions Cheryl Coe took against her husband in this recorded interview conducted by Inv. Wade and A.D.A. [WITNESS #2].
Continuing a review of O.C.G.A. 16-5-1 which is Felony Murder defined as a person also commits the offense of murder when, in the commission of a felony, he/she causes the death of another human being irrespective of malice. This criminal charge is also applicable to this incident as described by the offender, Cheryl Coe.
On the morning of 06/24/2021 two arrest warrants were prepared for judicial review based on the previously described code sections. These arrest warrants were reviewed by Coweta County Magistrate Judge Jim Stripling, at approximately 0844 hours Judge Stripling signed arrest warrant numbers 21-EW-000485 and 21-EW-000486 for aggravated assault and murder(felony).
Copies of these arrest warrants were immediately taken to the booking area of the jail so staff could process them and formally book in Cheryl Coe on said charges.
It was decided that I would now end my workday which had last the previous day, overnight, and into the following morning. On my way out of The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office I made contact with the mother of Cheryl Coe in the lobby, [WITNESS #3]. I sat and spoke with [WITNESS #3] for a short time and attempted to answer her questions, which consisted of the court process and what her daughter was actually charged with. I also provided [WITNESS #3] information on the process of obtaining a public defender and details of setting up an account so Cheryl can establish use of a telephone in the jail.
This conversation with [WITNESS #3] was captured on my body worn camera. During our conversation [WITNESS #3] received a phone call that she decided to take. I then left the building, ending my workday.
On 06/25/2021 I began researching the social media presence of [VICTIM #1] and Cheryl Coe, I decided to preserve the following social media accounts:
[REDACTED BY AGENCY]
[REDACTED BY AGENCY]
I began preparation of the four appropriate search warrants for each of these listed accounts. Next opportunity I will seek review/signature of them in The Coweta County Superior Court.
On 06/28/2021 I was notified the family of [VICTIM #1] had reached out to this office to formally meet in reference to questions they had in the case. The contact information for [REDACTED] was forwarded to me. I immediately phoned [REDACTED] and due to her mother being elderly I arranged to meet with their family at [50 BLOCK] Ridley Road in Palmetto, Georgia at 1600 hours this date. This is their mother, now identified as [REDACTED]’s residence. This meeting took place without incident.
There were several questions the family had I was simply unable to answer due to the investigation still very much active. The family understood this and was very receptive, I made sure both [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] had my direct desk number if any questions arose after our meeting.
On 06/30/2021 I received a phone call from [REDACTED] of McKoon’s Funeral Home located here in Newnan, Coweta County, Georgia. [REDACTED] was needing to meet with Cheryl Coe to review some documentation with her in reference to the last remains of [VICTIM #1]. Due to Cheryl still being married to [VICTIM #1] at the time of his death her signature was needed on some documents for the final arrangements. I agreed with [REDACTED] to facilitate a meeting between McKoon’s and Cheryl here at The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.
A short while later [REDACTED] arrived and I placed him in my office in the investigative division, I proceeded down to the jail to escort Cheryl to meet with [REDACTED]. This was completed without incident. I did activate my body worn camera during this meeting, however I participated very little. Again, I facilitated McKoon’s meeting with Cheryl for her signature on a cremation agreement. At the end of this meeting I handcuffed Cheryl in the front and escorted her back to the church room of B-Pod without incident.
I did ask Cheryl if there was anything, I could assist her with at this time? Cheryl advised she was in protective custody as she requested when initially booked, now she had changed her mind but did not know how to be transferred into general population. When I escorted Cheryl back into B-Pod I asked the detention officer in the tower if he could have someone speak with her regarding this request.
There are several outstanding tasks left in this case such as the social media search warrants and the search warrants to perform forensic data extractions on the iPhones to name a few. I also plan on meeting with ADA [WITNESS #2] to discuss the evidence and forensic processing of the items.

[NARRATIVE #10 on July 06, 2021]
On 7-6-21, I received an anonymous letter in the mail made out to my attention with no return address. The letter stated the following:
Hello.
I have some information that may be helpful in the investigation into the [VICTIM #1] murder.
Mrs. Coe has made statements in the presence of several friends at a gathering in June. She apparently dumped her purse out in front of this group of friends and a bottle of “personal lubricant” and condoms fell out. Being that she is a married woman in her 50’s she must have felt the need for an explanation at that moment. She proceeded to explain how she and Mr. [VICTIM #1] had an “open marriage.”
In addition to these comments, at the same event, she made conversation about a number of weapons that Mr. [VICTIM #1] had taught her to shoot and quote “I sleep with a gun under my pillow”
She also mentioned to someone what she and Mr. [VICTIM #1] were arguing about the night of the shooting. It was said that Mr. [VICTIM #1] wanted a divorce from her.
I hope this is helpful insight and perhaps can assist in finding a motive or reason for the death of Mr. [VICTIM #1]. (end of letter)
A copy of this letter has been scanned and attached to the case file. The actual letter will be entered into evidence.

On 07/15/2021 the Facebook and Instagram Records requested via search warrant were made available for download. This records are retrieved from The Facebook Law Enforcement Portal. The records were downloaded without incident for each account with exception of one set.
The Facebook Page of Cheryl Coe which was requested via search warrant, these records are not present for download at this time. A inquiry has been made on the availability of these records.
A preliminary hearing in this case has been scheduled for Friday July 23rd at 0900 hours. I have a meeting with ADA [WITNESS #2] on the day prior to discuss the presentation of this case.

[NARRATIVE #12 on July 20, 2021]
On 07/20/2021 I was notified by Facebook the records requested for the account of Cheryl Coe were available for download. Upon my return to work on 07/21/2021 these records were successfully downloaded without incident. These files have not been reviewed at this time, only archived by me.
On 07/21/2021 I phoned a neighbor identified as [WITNESS #4] who had reached out to this office to discuss [VICTIM #1] and Cheryl Coe. I phoned and successfully interviewed [WITNESS #4] at approximately 1007 hours. [WITNESS #4] advised she considered [VICTIM #1] one of if not, her best friend. She got to know him from her employment, [VICTIM #1] was a longtime customer buying heavy equipment from their company. Things such as hydraulic filters and things of that nature.
When [VICTIM #1] married Cheryl, [WITNESS #4] advised she naturally became friends with her as well. They talked on the phone and checked on each other as neighbors and friends, she also continued to deliver parts to [VICTIM #1]’s house. [WITNESS #4] stated she knew the two maintained an alternative marriage but never judged them or was faced with it.
On 06/23/2021 which is the day of [VICTIM #1]’s death [WITNESS #4] advised she distinctly heard two gunshots at or close to 6:30 PM, she did not think much of it at the time. She is used to hearing gun shots out where they reside in the county. Around 7:46 PM [WITNESS #4] advises she observed several law enforcement vehicles going up [VICTIM #1]’s Driveway, she became concerned and sent him a text message. This was at approximately 7:46 PM, [WITNESS #4] texted [VICTIM #1] checking on him and received no response.
[WITNESS #4] phoned [VICTIM #1] and texted him an additional time, not receiving any replies. The following day upon calling some mutual friends [WITNESS #4] learned that [VICTIM #1] had been shot and Cheryl was criminally charged with his death. [WITNESS #4] was not sure if what she knew would assist in the investigation nor did she have anything further to add. She merely wanted to share her view of the day with me in hopes it would be of some significance.
Inv. Nix had sent me the phone number of a person identified as [WITNESS #1]; it was relayed he was chatting on Facebook with Cheryl leading up to the death of [VICTIM #1]. I attempted contact with [WITNESS #1] via the phone number of [REDACTED BY AGENCY], he did not answer. His voicemail was full, but the response asked if I wanted to send an SMS Message of my phone number to the subscriber, I did so and as of the time of this supplemental have not heard back from him.

[NARRATIVE #13 on July 26, 2021]
On 07/26/2021 I was contacted via telephone by [WITNESS #5], the oldest child of [VICTIM #1]. I had asked [WITNESS #5] if he would call me and schedule a time for us to conduct a formal interview. This was due to statements made that he was with his father leading up to a short while prior to his death. At approximately 1942 hours [WITNESS #5] phoned my desk number at The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office stating he was here and available to speak.
I escorted [WITNESS #5] upstairs to my office, then activated my body worn camera to capture the interview in its entirety. Please note the date on my body worn camera is correct, however the time stamp is off by several hours. Again, the time on my recording is not accurate.
I advised [WITNESS #5] the reasoning for this interview was the statements made that he was present when Cheryl Coe arrived home from work. This beginning with what he and his father did that day, what times did they do it, and what time did he leave their residence at [3400 BLOCK] Tommy Lee Cook Road on the incident date.
[WITNESS #5] began stating that his father had not been right for the past few days, he was off. Meaning something was not right with him, his father’s entire demeanor was he was not himself. His dad acknowledged something “was up.” However, he would not discuss it and it was left at that. The two had been working all day, then come home, and worked on the bike. This referenced a Pan Head Harley Davidson Motorcycle in the shop. When I observed this motorcycle, it appeared to have an oil drip pan underneath it.
[WITNESS #5] advised when Cheryl arrived home from work after working or hanging out all day that was his “que to bounce.” He had some errands to run that day anyway. The arrived home around 5 PM, he left around 6 PM. Walking through the garage on his way-out, [WITNESS #5] encountered Cheryl at the refrigerator, he advised Cheryl he needed her to put the bottle of Wild Turkey back into the freezer. [WITNESS #5] further advised Cheryl he couldn’t find the glasses for drinks and left the bottle on the counter, could she put it up for him? Cheryl agreed, he told her bye, and left around 6:15 PM.
I asked [WITNESS #5] to back up and advise where they were working this date, he couldn’t remember exactly. He did advise on a job in Turin. I asked if it was at their shop in Turin, he advised on a job. His dad “ran around” doing paperwork and picking up payments. [WITNESS #5] places he and his father returning home between 4:45 PM and 5:00 PM, he leans closer to 5 PM. This is the two arriving at [3400 BLOCK] Tommy Lee Cook Road.
[WITNESS #5] identified the residence and the large workshop on the right-hand side of the residence if facing it from the driveway. He stated they pulled the old carb off and installed a new one attempting to repair the motorcycle. The motor did not fire, and Cheryl arrived home, the two decided to work on the bike again later, maybe the weekend. [WITNESS #5] is certain this date Cheryl arrived home around 6 PM and he left by 6:15 PM. He again detailed the encounter with Cheryl in the garage refrigerator asking her to put the Wild Turkey back in the freezer inside the kitchen.
[WITNESS #5] stated he was recently made aware of some details surrounding his father and Cheryl’s open marriage. [WITNESS #5] states his father had a girl he wanted to see, but Cheryl said no because she did not like her, [VICTIM #1] was going to see the female anyway. Cheryl then booked an encounter with another male, ending up booking two meetings with separate men in the same day. It was [WITNESS #5]’s knowledge this date his father was supposed to speak with Cheryl to resolve this disagreement. I have not confirmed these details, this was stated to me by [WITNESS #5].
I asked [WITNESS #5] his opinion of Cheryl. [WITNESS #5] advised she had always been nice and helpful to him, never a cross word between them. The two never had any problems with one another. The only thing odd to him was at the refrigerator as he asked her to put the Wild Turkey back into the freezer, she did not talk to him, she just looked at him.
I confirmed with [WITNESS #5] the time he left this residence, he specifically remembered looking at his phone and turning on his music around 6:15 PM.
When I asked [WITNESS #5] about his father being hot, he advised the shop is very, very hot. They had also been kick starting that motorcycle which would make him even more hot and sweaty. They had also been working in hot conditions all day long, then in the shop. I was attempting to justify the dripping condition of [VICTIM #1]’s shirt as I observed it on the back porch.
The remainder of this conversation was [WITNESS #5] asking questions about the charges against Cheryl and the incident. Please consider this a summary of this interview, which will be available in its entirety in the casefile.

[NARRATIVE #14 on August 13, 2021]
Upon review of the records provided by Facebook as a result of my initial search warrants on 07/21/2021 there are several items of relevance, however it seems the scope was simply too small. The dates the Facebook Data was requested in the original search warrants for both Cheryl Coe and [VICTIM #1] were May 1st, 2021 thru June 24th, 2021.
After a discussion with Coweta County Assistant District Attorney [WITNESS #2] the decision was made to create another search warrant for these two Facebook Pages with a broader scope to capture more of the data detailing the relationship of Cheryl and [VICTIM #1]. The statements have been made by Cheryl and others involved in the investigation the open marriage had caused a disagreement in the days leading up to [VICTIM #1] being shot by Cheryl.
On 08/12/2021 I constructed additional search warrants for the same two Facebook Pages with a larger scope, the new scope I used was January 1st, 2021 thru May 1st, 2021. On the same day these were presented to Coweta County Superior Court Judge Travis Sakrison, they were than signed.
On 08/13/2021 these search warrants were scanned and uploaded to Facebook’s Law Enforcement Portal for service.
On 08/11/2021 I received a call from Det. Jarrod Anderson of The LaGrange Police Department advising me he would be available to process these two Apple iPhones this upcoming week. So, on 08/13/2021 I met with Coweta County Magistrate Judge Robert Stokely and upon review he signed search warrant numbers E004989 and E004990 for the processing of Cheryl and [VICTIM #1]’s Apple iPhones.
Det. Anderson is going to notify me via telephone next week when he will take possession of the phones and I will personally transport them to his office.

On 08/18/2021 I received a call from Detective Jarrod Anderson of The LaGrange Police Department. It was stated to me by Det. Anderson I could now bring him the iPhones associated with this case.
I requested these phones from Coweta County Evidence Technician [REDACTED], when they were transferred into my possession I immediately proceeded to The LaGrange Police Department. I provided Det. Anderson with a photocopy of the evidence sheets, the search warrants, the phones, and an external hard drive of my own for data transfer.
After a quick review of the documentation Det. Anderson stated he would notify me next week upon completion of the extractions.

[NARRATIVE #16 on August 20, 2021]
On 08/20/2021 I received a phone call from Det. Anderson of The LaGrange Police Department advising his office had completed the data extractions of these two phones.
Inv. Mike Mathis of The Coweta County Crime Supression Unit was presently in the office at LaGrange Police Department as was offering to deliver these items back to me. I agreed for Inv. Mathis to sign for and take possession of the evidence and deliver back to me at The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.
This exchange took place this date without incident, the proper chain of custody was documented using the evidence sheets.
The data provided from the forensic data extractions is now available for my review, which at the time of this supplemental report has not been completed. I will perform a review of this data and document it with an additional supplemental report when that task has been completed.

[NARRATIVE #17 on August 30, 2021]
On 08/30/2021 the records associated with the latest Facebook Search Warrants which expanded the scope of the data request for both Cheryl and [VICTIM #1]’s Accounts was made available for download. Gaining access to the law enforcement portal the records of Cheryl were downloaded without incident.
When I attempted to download the records associated with [VICTIM #1]’s Account the PDF file would not download. It errored and continued to do so as I conducted several troubleshooting methods to obtain the file. I ultimately had to notify Facebook of this error. On 08/31/2021 the problem was remedied and the file was downloaded without incident.
This data will be added to my file for review by The Coweta County DA’s Office.

[NARRATIVE #18 on September 08, 2021]
On 09/08/2021 upon a brief review of the forensic data extractions from [VICTIM #1] and Cheryl Coe’s Apple iPhones I realized they both posses active Snapchat Accounts. I was able to recover the usernames to these accounts which are as follows:
[VICTIM #1]’s is found at the username of “[REDACTED BY AGENCY]”.
Cheryl Coe’s is found at the username of “[REDACTED BY AGENCY]”.
I prepared two preservation requests, then uploaded them to the Snapchat Law Enforcement Portal using the data parameters of 01/01/2021 thru 06/23/2021. The same dates used for Facebook.
These preservation requests will be followed up by search warrants within the appropriate window.

[NARRATIVE #19 on October 06, 2021]
On 10/06/2021 I met with Coweta County Superior Court Judge Travis Sakrison and had three search warrants signed in reference to this investigation. They will be detailed as in this supplemental report.
The first two accounts are for Snapchat which are as follows:
[VICTIM #1], display/username of [REDACTED BY AGENCY].
Cheryl Coe, display/username of [REDACTED BY AGENCY]
The third and final search warrant was for the KiK Account of Cheryl Coe which is identified using the username of [REDACTED BY AGENCY]
On 10/01/2021 I successfully loaded the forensic data extractions for each phone into Cellebrite’s Physical Analyzer and successfully exported the reports on both iPhones. One for [VICTIM #1] and Cheryl. These extractions were completed using Cellebrite Physical Analyzer Version 7.48.1.3 and were exported with no issues at all.
In a meeting with Coweta County Assistant District Attorney [WITNESS #2] it was discussed to conduct a DNA comparison on the handgun I would need to retrieve buccal swabs from Cheryl Coe for comparison at The GBI’s Crime Lab.
These search warrants spoken of earlier for the social media accounts have been scanned and uploaded to the appropriate destinations. Due to there being no timetable for the data production I will turn in the casefile to the district attorney’s office without these results. I will simply update when they arrive and deliver the files to their office.
The outstanding items to complete in this investigation consist of obtaining buccal swabs from Cheryl Coe and completing the GBI Crime Lab processing requests that cannot be initiated until the swabs for comparison are logged into evidence here at The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.
I will supplement this report accordingly.
[End of Narrative]
[NARRATIVE #20 on October 06, 2021]
On 10/06/2021 at 1731 hours I successfully met with Coweta County Magistrate Judge Robert Stokely, this was in reference to my application for a search warrant requesting the DNA of Cheryl Coe in the form of buccal swabs. The swabs which would be obtained from her inner cheek lining from saliva. Upon its review search warrant number E005046 was signed.
On 10/07/2021 I made contact with Cheryl Coe in the Coweta County Jail in the B-Pod church room. Utilizing my body worn camera I supplied Cheryl with a copy of the search warrant and explained the procedure to her, or how I would obtain the DNA from her mouth. While reviewing the search warrant with Cheryl the items to be searched for I had typed in her name and date of birth, I also attached a screen capture from JMS of her booking profile.
Cheryl pointed out to me her date of birth was wrong, I had hand typed it into the items to be searched portion of the search warrant as [REDACTED BY AGENCY]/1970, her actual date of birth is [REDACTED BY AGENCY]/1970. At this point I had not executed the search warrant; she had merely reviewed it with me. I immediately stopped and took the copy from her and advised we would meet again later on when this was corrected. I returned to my office and reviewed this search warrant, her correct date of birth is attached in the form of a screen capture, but to alleviate any problems with the case I decided to return this search warrant and create a new one.
I contacted Coweta County Magistrate Judge Robert Stokely and briefed him on the discrepancy I had with search warrant number E005046, I returned the search warrant as not executed. I then created search warrant number E005054 with the corrected data. Upon review and signature, I proceeded back to B-Pod having jail deputies escort Cheryl back to the church room. I provided her a copy of the search warrant and successfully obtained the DNA or buccal swabs from her inner cheeks. This was captured on my body worn camera and has been uploaded to evidence.com. The swabs were logged into evidence using sheet number 63714.
In an attempt to add missing items to this casefile I logged into the GBI Department of Forensic Sciences Website to see if any of the requested information was made available. Seems some of these items had been made available for download/review. These include the blood alcohol report of Cheryl Coe and the autopsy report of [VICTIM #1]. The toxicology report for Cheryl is outstanding still.
The summary and opinion paragraph of this report on page five states the following:
“The decedent is a 48-year-old man. Per report, on June 23, 2021 he was shot by another individual at his residence. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The autopsy revealed a single close-range gunshot wound of the left side of the chest, with injuries of the left lung and hemorrhage into the left chest cavity. Other injuries included a contusion of the right hip and an abrasion of the left knee.
CAUSE OF DEATH
Gunshot Wound of the Torso
MANNER OF DEATH
Homicide”
These reports are included in the casefile.
Outstanding in this case are the results of the Snapchat Search Warrants and GBI Analysis of the handgun for DNA and NIBN’s to compare the shell casings with the suspected handgun Cheryl Coe used to shoot her husband. I was provided an external hard drive by Coweta County Assistant District Attorney [WITNESS #2] to transfer all of the digital evidence to his office for review and discovery.
This file will now be turned over to The Coweta County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. It will still be supplemented as needed with the outstanding data.
I recommend this case be removed from my dashboard as cleared by arrest.

After hours on 10/12/2021 I was notified by Snap Inc. the search warrant results were available for download. Upon my return to work on 10/13/2021 I logged into the Snap Inc. Law Enforcement Portal and downloaded these results without incident.
I immediately burned them to a DVD and will be providing a copy to ADA [WITNESS #2]. After creation of this disk I did review the data. There was no content in the form of video or images provided. There are some chat logs that were saved by the users, but nothing else in terms of discussions, chats, or Snaps.

[NARRATIVE #23 on October 20, 2021]
On 10/20/2021 I was carbon copied into an email message exchange with the GBI Forensics Lab and The Coweta County District Attorney’s Office. This email exchange was a discussion with the DNA request of the handgun used by Cheryl Coe in this homicide.
[REDACTED], Assistant Manager of The GBI Forensic Biology Lab was asking some details of the murder investigation to determine if the lab would perform the requested tests. When I advised [REDACTED] that Cheryl Coe had admitted to using this handgun in shooting her husband the DNA testing was denied due to a backlog of tests.
[REDACTED] did offer to swab the handgun to preserve the DNA that is present, then provide it as evidence. Her lab would then transfer the handgun for NIBNS for firearms testing. I phoned ADA [WITNESS #2] and discussed this with him, we both agreed.
The following day on 10/21/2021 I replied to [REDACTED]’s email taking her up on this offer, which I did not hear back from. On 10/27/2021 I emailed [REDACTED] once again asking if she received my email. She apologized and advised this would be performed.

The report was in reference to firearms testing that I requested last year. The report states the following:
“Microscopic examination and comparison reveal that the bullet, Item 3 of Crime Lab Case 2021-1020887, was fired from the firearm, Item 2 of Crime Lab Case 2021-1023401, based on agreement of class and individual characteristics.”
Again, this report has been downloaded and will be supplied to The Coweta County District Attorney’s Office for addition to the casefile.
I did advise ADA [WITNESS #2] of this update in person this morning at the justice center.

On 08/10/2022 I received an email from The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Division of Forensic Science advising there was an update on this case. I logged into the website and successfully viewed this report.
The report was based off a NIBIN Test which returned negative. Essentially the GBI tested this handgun to make sure it was not used in another crime through the national database, it has not been as of the date of this report.

The records were then sent to me via an email link to the CVS portal. I created an account and downloaded the records. They were attached in RMS and also emailed to the DA’s Office. I will place the paper copies of the form and court order into the case file.
