COWETA COUNTY, Ga. – Homeland Security and the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office joined forces in a recent operation targeting human trafficking and charged 14 individuals with a variety of offenses. Authorities rescued three victims and continue to investigate this active case.
Shamika Stewart was charged with prostitution and possession of amphetamine and cocaine, and Raymond Armstrong with intent to distribute methamphetamine and pandering. Armstrong was paroled in the past for utilizing facilities in foreign and interstate commerce to transmit data regarding an underage individual.
Law enforcement explained that their main goal was to target both johns and prostitutes in order to identify victims of human trafficking. The sting included deputies from the Department of Homeland Security, Muscogee County, Coweta County, and the Warden for the Coweta County Prison.
Deputies say camera footage caught one suspect soliciting sex from an undercover office in addition to doing cocaine.
Those arrested associated with the victims of human trafficking may face federal charges as well.
