On June 6, 2026, at approximately 1147 hours, I, Deputy Lee, was dispatched to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] to meet with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] regarding her witnessing her neighbor, Luis Sanchez-Araujo, hit a dog with a broomstick.
Upon arriving, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] was upset to the point of crying. She essentially stated the following about what occurred. At approximately 1138 hours, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] heard a dog yelp from in front of her home at [REDACTED BY AGENCY] at which point she watched live video from a camera that was pointed toward [REDACTED BY AGENCY].
She watched as Luis repeatedly stabbed a dog with a broom handle under the stairs of their porch. Seeing this, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] notified her son, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and they went to stop it. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and Luis exchanged their thoughts on what occurred, at which point [REDACTED BY AGENCY] took the dog off its leash, and it fled under the modular home.
[REDACTED BY AGENCY] was not able to let me see a video of it actually occurring due to not paying for the subscription, but was able to let me see a video of which you can hear in the background the dog yelping. I returned to my patrol car, and while waiting for animal control to arrive, I witnessed the dog come from under the porch with a significant limp to its front right leg.
When Coweta County Animal Control arrived, I met with Sergeant Smith who accompanied me to speak with the reporting party again and then the offender. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] gave the same story, providing the same evidence. When we spoke to Luis, he stated that he had hit the dog because the dog was tearing up a package.
Luis is charged with cruelty to animals due to unjustifiably causing pain and suffering to the dog.
[REDACTED BY AGENCY] was given a case card, a case number, and sent a community request for all digital evidence. Animal Control stated they would be citing the wife for additional offenses. Lieutenant Fausett stayed with Animal Control as I transported Luis to the Coweta County Jail. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] filled out a written official statement form that will be scanned into RMS.
Before leaving, Animal Control took possession of the dog and transported it to the vet for an evaluation.
