On February 19, 2026, I responded to [40 BLOCK] Smith Circle on a subject armed and firing gunshots through the adjacent property.
Dispatch stated that the caller, [REDACTED BY AGENCY], stated that the subject was actually shooting at them in their direction, and this was not just some random person shooting a gun. The caller then stated that he did not know the subject and was squatting on the property. Dispatch then stated over the radio that the subject who lived there was Milton Mason and had a prior history with the Coweta County Sheriff’s office, and that Mr. Mason had handguns and rifles inside his home at [40 BLOCK] Smith Circle, which had been seen from prior incidents. Dispatch also stated he had [REDACTED BY AGENCY].
I responded with Sergeant Thompson and D/S Newman. Once we arrived on the scene, we established a perimeter at [40 BLOCK] Smith Circle, at the end of the driveway, and requested that all residents in this area shelter in their homes and stay indoors. Multiple attempts were made to get Mr. Mason to walk out of his residence with his hands up and speak to the deputies on the scene by using the intercom system in my patrol car.
The intercom was attempted for approximately over an hour. Mr. Mason would not come out of the residence nor was there any movement inside the house, the supervisors on the scene had the Coweta County Swat Team respond to the location and contact CIU who then took out arrest warrants for Milton Mason. A perimeter was maintained until the Swat Team arrived.
[REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that he was the one who called 911, and that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and [REDACTED BY AGENCY] were the individuals responsible for cleaning out the property adjacent to [40 BLOCK] Smith Circle. Both [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated they were on the adjacent property to clean the junk off the property. They were standing directly across from Milton Mason’s property and they heard a gunshot come from Milton’s property toward their direction. They yelled to let him know they were standing back there then they heard another round go off in their direction. They took cover behind some heavy equipment.
They then heard a burst of gunfire and heard the buzzing of the rounds go over their head. A short time after a larger burst of gunfire rang out and they again heard the rounds buzzing by them. They then ran back toward the property owners residence in fear that they were going to be shot by Milton.
Once the Swat Team arrived, the scene was turned over to them.
Swat detained a female who exited the residence after the bearcat arrived. She at no point made herself known, respond to any commands, nor reach out to emergency services during the callouts given by FTO Smallwood on his PA system prior to SWAT arriving. Milton Mason also exited the residence and was arrested. I met with all witnesses and took witness statements. At this time, all witness statements and the scene were turned over to CIU.
[End of Narrative]
