On August 13, 2022, I, D/S Searels, was dispatched to the area of [1300 BLOCK] Lakeside Way in reference to a discharging firearms call. While enroute to this location 911 advised that they have received multiple calls about shots being fired. Callers advised 911 that five black men were shooting at each other then got into a blue Hyundai and a black Volkswagen and left.
When I arrived on scene, I was stopped by [WITNESS #1] who was leaving the location in a red SUV. He advised that people were shooting in front of building [REDACTED] and building [REDACTED] then left. I did not see anyone fleeing the scene when I arrived.
While looking in the area, I noticed that a white Kia Optima had a bullet hole in the driver’s door. The registration for this vehicle is [REDACTED]. I then advised LT Curtis that we may need an investigator to be called out to the scene. While looking in the area there were multiple bullet casings located in the stair well of building [REDACTED] and multiple bullet casings in front of building [REDACTED].
At this time, I put crime scene tape up in order to keep the scene secure. SGT Mills assisted with looking at all of the buildings and vehicle’s in the area. There was one bullet hole located in the front of building [REDACTED] and one bullet hole located in the front of building [REDACTED]. Four vehicle’s were struck with bullets. The white Kia Optima that I saw when I arrived on scene as well as a silver Ford Mustang with no tag (VIN: [REDACTED]), A red Ford Mustang (tag number [REDACTED]) and a black Honda Accord (tag number [REDACTED]).
While walking the area looking for additional evidence I located a pair of red sandals in front of building [REDACTED] beside the sidewalk. I then began speaking with residents that had began coming out of their homes. [WITNESS #2] advised that he was walking his dogs when he heard people arguing near the mailboxes then they began shooting.
[WITNESS #3] advised that he was going to check his mail when he heard gun shots. He advised that he then saw a dark grey Volkswagen Jetta the letters “GH” in the back window speed off and almost lose control around building [REDACTED]. He advised that this vehicle left towards the rear of the complex.
[WITNESS #4] advised that he was standing on the north side of building [REDACTED] when he heard gun shots then saw a black male wearing a grey tank top and black shorts running.
[WITNESS #5] advised that she was in her residence and heard gun shots. She advised that she then went on her porch and saw a black Volkswagen occupied by two black males speeding through the parking lot.
[WITNESS #6] lives in apartment [REDACTED] and advised he saw a slender black male wearing grey shorts and a grey shirt running. Investigator Mullis and investigator Brooks were on scene at this time and the scene was turned over to them.
911 advised that a male caller advised them that he has video footage of possible suspects involved in the shooting. He advised 911 that he would meet near Kohls. D/S Thompson met with this male identified as [REDACTED]. He sent D/S Thompson four videos from the cameras on the rear of his residence located at [4300 BLOCK] Lakeside Way. D/S Thompson sent these videos to Investigator Mullis.
At this time, Investigator Mullis asked me to go to every apartment in buildings [REDACTED], [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] and make contact with the residents to check welfare and see if they know anything about the shooting.
