On 4/18/2026 at 6:07 AM, I, D/S T. Scott responded to the area of Rowe Rd and Dead Oak Rd in reference to a hit and run. Dispatch notified units that the caller heard a car crash near his house and people yelling. There was no other information given from the caller.
Upon my arrival, I located the blue Chevy Silverado (GA Tag: [REDACTED]), in the front yard of [1200 BLOCK] Rowe Rd. It had extensive front end and undercarriage damage. The vehicle had left the roadway and struck a utility pole and ended up disabled in the front yard. There was no one around the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle found multiple open liquor containers in the truck. The phone and wallet of Hurley Varenas was located in the truck. I had 911 call the registered owner and she advised that her son, Hurley Varenas, was driving the truck with [REDACTED BY AGENCY].
I left the accident scene and drove to the RO’s home address at [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. When I arrived I was speaking to the parents when Hurley and [REDACTED BY AGENCY] arrived at the house on foot. Both of them appeared extremely intoxicated. I spoke to the [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and she stated that they had been in an accident and that Hurley had been driving. She was very upset and crying.
I spoke to Hurley and there was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and he had slurred speech. He advised me he was 18 years old and admitted to drinking and had trouble even standing still. I asked to do field sobriety tests and at first he said yes and then he said he was not sure. I decided to not conduct the tests as he was going back and forth on agreeing to do them.
At this point, I made my decision that Mr. Varenas was impaired to the point where he could not safely operate a motor vehicle and that he was going to be arrested for Driving Under the Influence Alcohol.
Due to Mr. Varenas being in physical control of a motor vehicle with the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and his person, his bloodshot watery eyes, unsteady walk and admission to alcohol, I determined that he was DUI-Alcohol.
At this time, I placed Mr. Varenas under arrest and read him the GA Implied Consent for persons under 21 to obtain his blood to which he agreed.
Mr. Varenas was charged with:
DUI-Alcohol
Failure to maintain lane
Hit and Run
Open Container Violations
Mr. Varenas was transported to Piedmont Newnan Hospital for medical clearance and the legal blood draw. The blood draw was conducted by Lab Tech [REDACTED]. Once cleared he was transported to the CCSO jail for processing. The vehicle was towed by Johnny’s Wrecker.
