DECATUR COUNTY, Ga. – A day care worker in southwest Georgia was arrested this week following a report of alleged child abuse at a local facility, according to Bainbridge police.
Yvette Thurston, 54, was taken into custody Monday and charged with first-degree aggravated battery and three counts of first-degree child abuse. Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Emmons set her bond at $44,000. Jail records show Thurston has since bonded out of the Decatur County Jail.
Authorities identified Thurston as an employee at Little Blessings Child Care, where the alleged incident occurred.
The child’s father shared images of his toddler online, saying the alleged abuse happened on the boy’s first day at the daycare. Police confirmed that surveillance video from the facility contributed to the investigation.
The boy was treated at a hospital, officials said.
