DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. – The 2024 Emmy Awards show is scheduled to air at 8:00 PM ET on Sunday, September 15, on ABC, and the nominations have been released. Numerous Georgia entertainers made the list, but Stone Mountain native Donald Glover leads the group.
Emmy-winning Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, has gained fame for his talented acting, directing, producing, singing, rapping, and more. Donald McKinley Glover Jr. studied at New York University and was hired by Tina Fey at the age of 23 to write for “30 Rock,” an NBC sitcom.
Although he was born at Edwards Air Force Base in Edwards, California, he spent his youth in Stone Mountain, Georgia, where his father was stationed.
Glover received two nominations this year for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for his work on “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” available on Amazon Prime Video. He co-created and stars in the series, which depicts a reimagining of the 2005 film of the same name starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
The show’s success was emphasized by receiving 16 total nominations, and the series gained renewal for a second season.
With these two latest nominations, Glover’s total career nominations rose to 13. The majority resulted from his work on “Atlanta,” a popular FX show, for which he won two Emmys, including one for outstanding directing for a comedy series.
Other nominated Georgians include R&B artist Usher for his Super Bowl halftime show, actor and comedian Steve Harvey for “Celebrity Family Feud,” and actor and entertainer RuPaul Charles for “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
