The following was taken from a press release distributed by the Office of the DeKalb County District Attorney – Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit on May 15, 2024:

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. – DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston announces a conviction by guilty plea in the case against a California man accused of shooting and killing a man outside a hair salon.

On Wednesday, Tychicus Cameron Wilson, 35, pleaded guilty to charges of Malice Murder, two counts of Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon stemming from the murder of Anthony Jordan, Jr., 29, on June 12, 2018.

The trial against Defendant Wilson began with jury selection on Monday.  The state presented all its witnesses and evidence.  Once prosecutors rested their case, Defendant Wilson changed his plea from not guilty to guilty.

According to the investigation, officers with the DeKalb County Police Department responded to a call about a shooting at a hair salon in a strip mall in the 5600 block of Redan Road in Stone Mountain.

When they arrived, officers found Jordan suffering from two gunshot wounds.  Paramedics transported him to Grady Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators learned Jordan had been at the salon for a hair appointment.  Jordan walked out of the salon around 5:15 p.m. and was standing outside the business talking on his cell phone when surveillance video showed Defendant Wilson pull up in a green Cadillac sedan, get out of the driver’s seat and fire four shots.

Two of the bullets struck Jordan.  Bullets also went through the hair salon’s front window shattering the glass.  One customer inside the salon was injured by the broken glass and another was grazed by a bullet.

During the investigation, detectives found surveillance video that showed Defendant Wilson arrive at the shopping center in the green Cadillac around 4:30 p.m.  Defendant Wilson backed into a parking spot and waited in the car.  Defendant Wilson briefly walked inside a gas station convenience store next to the strip mall where his face was clearly visible on security footage as he made a purchase.

Defendant Wilson returned to the car and waited a few more minutes for Jordan to leave the hair salon before driving up in the Cadillac and opening fire.  The motive for the shooting was not clear.

Defendant Wilson was arrested on June 25, 2018 in Los Angeles, CA for a parole violation.  When arrested, the defendant was in possession of a handgun and a fake ID.

He was charged and convicted in California with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.  Defendant Wilson was extradited to Georgia in February 2021 after serving his sentence on that offense.

Immediately following the guilty plea, DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Brian Lake, who presided over the trial, sentenced Defendant Wilson to serve Life in prison.

The case, assigned to the Homicide and Gangs Unit was prosecuted by Chief Senior Assistant District Attorney Joshua Geller with assistance from Senior Assistant District Attorney Darlene Childers, District Attorney Investigator Christopher Usiak, and Victim Advocate Kaysha Albritton.  DeKalb County Police Department Det. Tappan led the initial investigation.
