On September 13, 2025, Officers Covington and Mack responded in normal patrol mode to [1500 BLOCK] W Lincoln Ave in reference to a report of family violence,
Upon arrival, we made contact with a black female, later identified as [VICTIM #1]. [VICTIM #1] stated that a black male, later identified as Antonio Johnson, became upset when she attempted to leave the residence. She explained that after returning to the home, Johnson became physically aggressive. [VICTIM #1] reported that Johnson hit her in the face before he began strangling her. She stated that while he was strangling her, she felt as though she was going to lose consciousness.
[VICTIM #1] further stated that Johnson grabbed her by the hair and violently slung her around the room by her hair. She clarified that she was wearing a wig at the time of the altercation, and Johnson removed the wig before grabbing her hair by the braids underneath. [VICTIM #1] stated that all of her braids were initially attached together, but Johnson pulled them apart during the struggle.
[VICTIM #1] confirmed that their children – [REDACTED BY AGENCY], [REDACTED BY AGENCY], and [REDACTED BY AGENCY] – were asleep in the house at the time of the altercation and did not witness the incident.
We observed a small laceration on the right side of [VICTIM #1]’s neck. A photograph was taken and will be placed on a CD and stored in evidence locker #02 at the Albany Police Department Property/Management.
After making contact with Johnson, he was placed in handcuffs by Ptl. E. Slankard and Ptl. S. Barris before being transported to our patrol vehicle. Once inside the vehicle, Johnson was read his Miranda rights and consented to provide information regarding the incident. Johnson stated that [VICTIM #1] became upset when he began packing his belongings to leave the residence. He claimed that when [VICTIM #1] returned home, she started punching and hitting him because he wanted to leave.
Johnson reported that [VICTIM #1] broke his belongings and threw his clothes on the ground. He stated that he tried to defend himself when [VICTIM #1] bit him on the left shoulder. Johnson admitted to choking [VICTIM #1], claiming it was an attempt to protect himself from further attack. He stated that he repeatedly asked [VICTIM #1]’s mother, [WITNESS #1], to intervene and stop [VICTIM #1] from attacking him, but [WITNESS #1] did not attempt to de-escalate the situation.
Johnson also stated that he had video footage of the incident. Upon reviewing the footage, it only showed events that occurred after the physical altercation. We observed a small laceration around Johnson’s right eye and a bite mark on the back of his left shoulder. Photographs were taken and will be stored in evidence locker #02 at the Albany Police Department Property/Management.
When we made contact with [WITNESS #1], she stated that she did not witness the physical altercation between Johnson and [VICTIM #1]. However, she confirmed that she was awakened by the noise of an argument between the two. [WITNESS #1] stated that when she entered the living room, all the children were awake and watching TV. [WITNESS #1] asked [REDACTED BY AGENCY] where [VICTIM #1] and Johnson were, and [REDACTED BY AGENCY] informed her that they were outside fighting again. [WITNESS #1] went to the back door and advised [VICTIM #1] to come inside before closing the rear door. [WITNESS #1] confirmed that she did not witness the physical altercation itself.
This incident is classified as family violence due to both parties having children together and residing in the same household.
Detective Woodall was contacted by Lt. Gadt for further investigation at the residence. I, Ptl. Mack, contacted GA Child Support to report the incident involving the children who were present in the residence at the time.
Johnson was transported to the Albany Police Department for further interview regarding the incident.
NCIC/GCIC checks were conducted on all involved parties, yielding negative results. A CARES form will be completed for the juveniles involved.
This case remains active.
