Dougherty County (August 24, 2022) – A homeless man was arrested and charged with kidnapping a woman, off the street, and forcing her into an abandoned apartment before sexually assaulting her.
Officers responded to Brother’s Convenience Store, on Newton Road, in reference to a victim wanting to report a rape. The victim stated that an unknown male, later identified as Jabarius Tyheem White, homeless, began yelling at her, in an attempt to offer her money, as she approached her stepbrother’s apartment while visiting him.
White then hit her in her mouth, grabbed her by the waist, and forced her into an abandoned apartment. The victim stated she was yelling for him to stop.
White proceeded to pin her down and rape her once inside the apartment. The victim managed to escape and run to a nearby convenience store. White followed her, entered the store and drug her back outside.
The victim got away a second time and re-entered the store, where she asked to use the phone to contact the police.
Police arrived and noted that she had a swollen lip. She stated that White did not use a condom. Officers obtained a photo of the suspect that the store clerk confirmed to be the male he saw dragging her from the store. The photo was also shown to the victim, who agreed it was the same person who had assaulted her.
Due to the victim identifying the suspect in the photo and her physical injuries, White was charged with Rape, Kidnapping, and Burglary (Forced Entry). EMS arrived on the scene to treat the victim for her injuries.
The suspect had other charges for Theft by Taking (More than $1500) and Criminal Trespass (Family Violence), which are unrelated to this case. Additionally, White was charged with two counts of Felony Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer for resisting arrest and striking both officers in the face while being taken into custody.
White is being represented by a public defender. His attorney has filed a motion to set bond but no hearing has been scheduled as of this date. The criminal case against him is ongoing.
