On September 23, 2025, we, Ptl. A. Mack and Cpl. T. Covington, responded in normal patrol mode to [1900 BLOCK] Ridgemont Rd in reference to a reported family violence dispute.

Upon arrival, we made contact with a black male, later identified as Jamarious Hicks, who stated he had been involved in a verbal altercation with his father-in-law, identified as [WITNESS #1]. Jamarious stated the argument began after [WITNESS #1] tapped his son, [REDACTED BY AGENCY], on the stomach. Jamarious explained that his son had vomited prior to the incident, and the gesture upset him. He admitted to calling [WITNESS #1] “stupid” in response to the tap.

Jamarious stated that [WITNESS #1]’s daughter, [VICTIM #1], approached him and said, “You are not about to talk to my dad like that.” A verbal altercation then began between Jamarious and [VICTIM #1] in the kitchen. Jamarious alleged that during the argument, [VICTIM #1] picked up a knife and walked toward him aggressively as if she intended to stab him. He stated that [WITNESS #1] had to hold [VICTIM #1] back to prevent her from charging at him with the knife. In response, Jamarious stated he pulled out his firearm and pointed it at [VICTIM #1] in self-defense. He later placed the firearm under his night pants in his bedroom inside the residence.

We then made contact with [WITNESS #1], who stated that he had walked up to his grandson and rubbed his stomach while saying, “You’re alright, little man.” [WITNESS #1] said that Jamarious then approached him and called him “a stupid nig*a,” asking why he would touch the child after he had just thrown up. [WITNESS #1] stated that [VICTIM #1] then intervened, asking Jamarious not to speak to him in that manner, which led to a verbal altercation between [VICTIM #1] and Jamarious.

[WITNESS #1] reported that during the argument, Jamarious pulled out a firearm and pointed it at [VICTIM #1], stating, “I’ll shoot you. I don’t care if you’re a girl.” [WITNESS #1] further stated that [VICTIM #1] never pointed a knife or any other weapon at Jamarious at any point during the incident.

We then spoke with [WITNESS #2], who corroborated [WITNESS #1]’s account and had no additional information to provide. Upon making contact with [VICTIM #1], she stated she was washing dishes when she overheard an argument between Jamarious and [WITNESS #1] occurring in the living room. At first, she did not intervene, stating that such arguments were routine. However, when she heard Jamarious say, “You dumb bit*h-a*s nig*a,” she stepped in and advised him not to speak to her father in that manner.

[VICTIM #1] stated that as the argument escalated, Jamarious began walking toward her aggressively, which caused her to pick up a knife located next to the sink and hold it at her side for self-defense. She insisted she never pointed the knife at Jamarious or made any threats to stab him.

[VICTIM #1] stated that as Jamarious continued approaching her, [WITNESS #1] yelled, “He has his gun!” Although [VICTIM #1] did not see the firearm, she observed Jamarious reaching into the waistband of his pants as if to draw a weapon.

[VICTIM #1] then exited the residence and sat inside her vehicle for approximately 2-3 minutes before realizing she had left her driver’s license inside. When she re-entered the residence to retrieve her wallet, she stated that Jamarious walked toward her and pointed a gun in her face, saying, “I’ll shoot you.” [VICTIM #1] reported that her mother, [WITNESS #2], intervened to de-escalate the situation by stepping between them. [VICTIM #1] stated she immediately left the residence after the incident.

A black in color Glock 43 9mm firearm (Serial 4: CDEL582) was recovered at the scene. Ptl. Covington unloaded the weapon and cleared the chamber before securing it in the rear of our patrol vehicle. The firearm contained (9) rounds in the magazine and (1) round in the chamber at the time of recovery.

The firearm was placed into Evidence Locker #07. The (10) 9mm rounds and holster were placed into Evidence Locker #02 at the Albany Police Department Property and Management Office.

Jamarious Hicks was placed in handcuffs (to the rear, double-locked) and secured in the rear of Ptl. Slankard’s patrol vehicle. He was transported to the Albany Police Department (201 W Oglethorpe Blvd) to be interviewed by Detective Baldwin.

Sgt. Paige was notified regarding the incident.

After further investigation Jamarious Hicks was charged with Aggravated Assault and was transported to Dougherty County Jail (1302 Evelyn Ave) by Ptl. lanyard.

A GCIC/NCIC check was conducted on all involved parties. No active warrants or wants were found.

This case is cleared by Arrest.
