I responded to 2588 N. Slappey Blvd (Wal-Mart Gas Station) in reference to discharging firearms. Dispatch advised that a white Chevy Tahoe was shooting and the Tahoe left the scene. Dispatch then advised the caller will be waiting in the parking lot in a red Ford. I asked dispatch if the caller was shot at. Dispatch advised the caller was in there when the shooting occurred in the parking lot and a bullet almost hit his vehicle. Dispatch further advised that two black males were in the white Tahoe. Sgt. Thomas Outlaw arrived on scene just a few moments before I did. Sgt. Outlaw informed me that he heard another gunshot in the area. I informed Sgt. Outlaw that the caller is in a red Ford.
At this time, I observed a red Ford F-350 displaying GA Tag [REDACTED] exiting 2586 N. Slappey Blvd (Wal-Mart Market) attempting to turn onto N. Slappey Blvd. I observed Sgt. Outlaw’s patrol vehicle on 20th Ave just north of the gas station. The red Ford pulled up to Sgt. Outlaw’s patrol vehicle. I saw two white males inside the red Ford with their windows down waving their hands trying to get Sgt. Outlaw’s and my attention. Sgt. Outlaw left the scene, told me via radio that the two white males in the red Ford told him that a Chevy Tahoe was involved and they pointed at the Tahoe that they saw leaving the scene. I got out of my vehicle and told the two white males identified as [WITNESS #1] (driver) and [WITNESS #2] (passenger) to park their vehicle in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart Market. At this time, Sgt. Outlaw advised he was behind a maroon Tahoe that [WITNESS #2] and [WITNESS #1] identified as being involve with the shooting.
I parked my vehicle in the front entrance of Walmart and I located one Lugar 9mm shell casing in the middle of the roadway in the parking lot approximately 10ft from the stop sign exiting Walmart’s parking lot. I then asked [WITNESS #2] and [WITNESS #1] how many gunshot were fired and they both stated only one gunshot.
I began to interview both [WITNESS #2] and [WITNESS #1] about what happened. They stated they just finished pumping gas at the Wal-Mart Gas Station and went to the stop sign facing east pointed at Wal-Mart. They then stated they saw a maroon Tahoe parked in a parking spot facing north and a white sedan parked next to the Tahoe. They further stated a white male, later identified as [VICTIM #1] was sitting in the driver seat of the Tahoe and a black male was sitting in the front passenger seat of the Tahoe. They also stated they saw a black male sitting in the driver seat of the white sedan. They stated they saw the Tahoe leaving the parking quickly and the black male jumped out of the Tahoe, landing on the ground, get up, pointed a handgun at the Tahoe, and shoot one time at the Tahoe.
They then stated the black male shooter was wearing a camouflage jacket and camouflage overall. They then stated the black male ran to the white sedan, got into the front passenger seat of the sedan, and left the scene pursuing the Tahoe traveling northbound in the 2600-blk of N. Slappey Blvd. The stated they got a partial GA Tag number of the white sedan that was [REDACTED]. At this time, I observed the Tahoe traveling westbound in the 900-blk of 20th Ave being pursued by Sgt. Outlaw. [WITNESS #2] and [WITNESS #1] then told me that was the Tahoe that was being shot at by the black male that got into the white sedan. I then immediately told all units that the Tahoe is the victim to this incident. Lt. Price instructed all units to terminate the vehicle pursuit. Sgt. Outlaw advised that the Tahoe then parked at 2505 N. Slappey Blvd (Superior Creek Lodge) where Sgt. Outlaw and other units made contact with [VICTIM #1]. The Tahoe’s GA Tag was [REDACTED] and [VICTIM #1] had sustain a gunshot wound.
[VICTIM #1] was transported to Phoebe Main Hospital by EMS and Cpl. Alexander Price responded to the hospital.
I did not observe any injuries towards [WITNESS #2] or [WITNESS #1] and did not observe any bullet holes to their red Ford F-350. [WITNESS #1] and [WITNESS #2] both provided a written statement of the incident. I took photographs of the scene and collected the single shell casing. I placed the shell casing into a brown paper bag for evidence. The photographs were downloaded onto a CD for evidence. A supplemental report was completed in reference to my evidence being logged into locker #2 at the LEC. An evidence voucher was completed. Lt. Jon Segroves arrived on scene and I informed him of the incident. We canvassed the area for other shell casings due to Sgt. Outlaw stating earlier that he heard a gunshot in the area, but we were not able to locate any shell casings in the 900-blk of 20th Ave, 2600-blk of Cardinal St., or in the 900-blk of 18th Ave. Lt. Nicovian Price informed me that he is Walmart attempting to gather video footage of the incident. See Lt. Price’s supplemental report in reference to this case.
At this time, Ptl. Kia Loud located a white Lexus ES displaying GA Tag [REDACTED] at the 2400 – blk Seaboard Dr. Ptl. Loud advised the vehicle was unoccupied.
I ran [WITNESS #2], [WITNESS #1], [VICTIM #1], [WITNESS #1]’s vehicle, the Tahoe’s information, and the Lexus’ information through NCIC/GCIC for any active warrants with negative results. NCIC/GCIC informed me that the owner to the Tahoe was [REDACTED] and the owner to the Lexus was Joseph Jackson.
Dispatch advised all units that Joseph Jackson was attempting to report his vehicle stolen and that he was heading to his residence ([500 BLOCK] 10th Ave) from Dawson GA. Dispatch then advised Joseph arrived at his residence and was waiting on the police. Ptl. Terry Wiley responded to the scene.
This case is active and forwarded to Investigations Division.
